If you are 15, then depending on where you live, you might be able to get a motorcycle license (though they will limit the size of the bike you can ride).
If you are just wanting to pick something up to drive after you turn 16 (or if for some crazy reason they allow 15 year olders to drive unattended wherever you live - let me know so I don't accidentally go there) then you should look at what you need the car for.
Trucks and vans are good if you need to haul stuff around (if you have friends with stuff to haul, they will call you all the damn time though). If you will be doing a lot of driving, you should look at smaller, more fuel efficient cars - especially with gas prices being the way they are now.
I was driving an old ford escort for a while, but unfortunately wrecked it a couple of weeks ago. I had replaced the engine, transmission, and the majority of the rest of the parts in it over the years. It made great transportation - got excellent milage, and despite looking like total crap, i didn't care. It was just a transportation box.
Fortunately I also have a '65 mustang GT coupe with a 289ci engine and a holley 4-barrel carb. (and an '06 suzuki boulevard C50 motorcycle). The 'stang is an f'ing blast - but you have to know how to work on cars to get one for a decent price, and then fix it up yourself - fortunately there are tons of fanatics for those cars, so parts are everywhere - and you can get quality reproduction parts cheap too.

More than anything, I would get something SAFE. At 15, you're a new driver, and like it or not, that makes you more likely to be involved in an accident. I'd stick with a medium-sized vehicle that offers you some protection in the event of a collision. A heavier vehicle is also a bit of a deterrent against speeding, since it's simply harder to get up to a dangerous speed without realizing it.
I had a Mustang when I was 18; it weighed a ton (back in the days when cars were mostly steel); it and a seatbelt saved my life when I couldn't avoid hitting an elderly lady who ran a stop sign.
Now, I have a Jeep - a 1999 Wrangler - and I love it!
