I would like to lose a few pounds (been going to the gym, not a big junk food eater), and I want to do it healthy. Any good advice about how many calories I should be intaking to lose weight? I know about changing my diet, cutting out unnecessary foods and cooking better. I'm a horrible soda drinker so I have cut it down significantly. What would you suggest? Do drinks such as slim fast really work if you drink them accordingly? And as far as working out, what are the best things to do at the gym. All tips are welcome. Thanks!

Did you know that for each can of regular soda that you give up, it equates to a 10 lb weight loss over a year? Cut back on the soda until you are no longer drinking them. Slowly switch your diet from refined foods to whole grain, add more veggies and fruit, limit eating out, etc. Make each day an opportunity to do a little better and you will lose weight in no time. If you are going to the gym, try to work up to 30-45 min of cardio (treadmill, elliptical, bike, whichever you enjoy) on most days and lift weights or take a yoga/pilates class 2-3 times a week.

Drinks like Slim Fast can work in the short term, but you have to ask yourself if you can go 3 months or longer eating like that.

Good luck to you!

I'd suggest the diabetic diet. It's basically just eating the food pyramid, but spreading it out over 3 small meals and 3 snacks every day. The mid-morning snack is just a piece of fruit, the mid-afternoon snack is an 8 oz. serving of milk and a fruit, and the evening snack is a milk and a carbohydrate serving (15 carbs). I also get 2 carb servings at each meal, 7 oz. total of meat (3 oz is about the size of a deck of cards, and 4 oz is about the size of the palm of your hand), 4 total vegetable servings (each 1/2 cup cooked or 1 cup raw), 1 more milk at breakfast, and 3 fats (6 grams--about 1 tablespoon of salad dressing or a pat of butter. It sounds like a lot, and you feel very full, but I'm losing about 1 to 1-1/2 pounds a week, which is what is recommended.

Gymwork that gets you sweating will do the most for weight loss.

I was 162 pounds and went on a 1200 calorie a day diet and averaged about 3-5 pounds a week loss according to my activity.

1200 calories is very hard to maintain and to achieve you have to go very low fat. Weight Watcher recipes are very good with lower fat ratios.

Good luck.
