Col. Chamberlain single-handedly won the battle of Gettysburg for his 'fixed-bayonet' order on the 2nd day of battle on Little Round Top. He was a Union colonel of the 20th Maine Regiment, facing off with Alabamians of Hood's rebel division. Although nearly out of ammunition, he ordered the charge that would've folded in the Union left flank and thus saved victory for the north.

The Union won the battle in 1863. The turning point of the battle was Little Round Top, where a last ditch effort by the Confederates was beaten back by a bayonet charge ordered by Chamberlain after the line was found to be single man and they were on the farthest left of the line. If they did not hold, Lee wouldv'e been able to swing his army around and flank the Union Lines. The Union was the North, and the Confederacy was the South.
The battle lasted from July 1, 1863 to July 3, 1863.

The Union won a tactical victory against the Confeds at Gettysburg. They were able to turn back the Confederate invasion of the north, dealt thousands of casualties on their army which could not be made up, and the Confederates never had the military muscle again to move offensively against the Union.
A more interesting question might be, could Meade have crushed the Army of Northern Virginia in an aggressive pursuit of Lee's army after Gettysburg? Confederate artillery ammunition was in desperate supply after the third day of the battle and its unknown the amount of small arms ammo was left. And the entire Confederate army was exhausted by battle, while the Army of Potomac had ready supplies and fresh troops. It was entirely possible for Meade to decisively crush Lee--its a shame he did not and the war would last an additional 2 years.

The good old Union from the North won the 3-day-long Battle of Gettysburg.
P.S. efw, good answer, but I wouldn't give all the credit to Chamberlain, however what he did was a brave thing, indeed.

The Union won the battle at gettysburg. Lee surrendered his army to Grant. Lee offered grant a very thoughtful pensionish thing. He allowed lee's army to keep their horses, guns, weapons, and Grant even fed the men who survived. He did this because he wanted to end the battle on a good foot
