doesnt it seem like people have an obsession with finding a quick fix for happiness that always only lasts for a little while until the "new" wears off ? ... and isnt having a relationship with God about finding inner happiness instead of chasing it around on the outside?

In my undergrad psychology class, I saw that the textbook included "religious faith" as a predictor correlated with happiness. I checked, and the author of the textbook failed to include any source for that. I still kind of want to have that removed from the textbook and investigate why it was published in the first place.

I agree with most of what you're saying, but religion and happiness do not go hand in hand. Only 4% of Sweden attends church, and less than 10% believe in a personal God. Yet, they're generally pretty happy. Iran is about 100% religious, and I don't get the feeling it's a happy country.

Yes, I agree people look for the quick fix and at the first sign that its not as wonderful as they think, they are disenchanted.

A relationship with God and inner happiness are never going to diminish...they is always something new and wonderful to discover. And you are never, ever, alone.

Neither.

Happiness is actually "Peace & Contentment" - an inner joy that is the harmonious expression of "Being One" or "Being Whole".

Happiness is the "joy of being" that is like the sound of a "bubbling brook", or the excited movement of a dog furiously wagging his tail as he runs to greet you - "ready to play", or the laughter of a baby playing "peek a boo".

Having a relationship with God is not about finding inner happiness, inner happiness is the result of the relationship with "God, your Dad" that comes from being restored to God as a son of God through Christ.

Those who seek for inner happiness through external means are restless because they are eternal beings who are physically separated from God; thus they are not "One/Whole".

For the True Happiness that they seek is Eternal and self-fulfilling.

I agree with you.

A Buddhist take on it would be that if we set up the conditions for happiness (live a good life, keep good friends, don't seek material things endlessly, think about life...), it can be expected that we can win it.

Whether it's because God loves us, or we've made well informed decisions is fairly academic...

But I agree with you.

Good question!

The seeds of unhappiness are sown in the fields of happiness. So I have heard.

I think we should aspire for the Peace that transends all understanding.

I think you have nailed it,pretty sister.

This applies to us Christians,as well..we too sometimes set goals or desires to ensure our fleeting happiness outside of the perimeter of God's plan and desire for our lives.
