Shall we gather together to send positive thoughts to those affected by the tragedy in Virginia? No prayers necessary.

May the sun shine bright and wash away despair.

The Humanist in me thinks a public discussion of what changes in security and inter-campus communication might have helped minimize the extent of the tragedy is more useful than wishes.

But the Unitarian Universalist in me is delighted to send positive thoughts to the survivors and the victims' families.

Well, better than the trite homilies I have seen elsewhere.

But personally I think that it'd be better if we all just went off right now and gave our loved ones a hug (or just a text to say 'thinking of you').

Because if the smallest good thing to come out of this is that we are all reminded of how lucky we are to be alive and cared for, then it might not be such a bad thing. Maybe.

Certainly, whether we are believers or not, we can feel the pain of those whose innocent family members were so senselessly murdered and send them our heartfelt condolences without resorting to the hypocrisy of prayer, if that is how we feel. Your sentiments are particularly lovely, in my opinion. I might add: May the victims' families discover solace somehow by whatever means is most comforting to them and somehow arrive at a semblance of peace, and may they experience joy in their lives again one day...

I have decided to look away and send peace. There are more important things than the fulfilment of my curiosity.

Thank you for this.

The fact of the matter is.....

This is Chapter N in this neverending murderous spree that happily feeds the media and the TVidiots alike.

NO thoughts will comfort those families. NOTHING can make them feel cozied and loved as we speak.

Guns are WRONG. PERIOD. Get that into your brains.
