I am just starting the diet becuase it has worked so well for my father who went down 4 pant sizes in 4 months. I just had a baby and instead of eating a balanced meal, I snack to much. I have 4 children and I just cant seem to find the time to excersise either. If it did work for you, what did kind of meals did you eat?

It worked for me, but you have to modify the Atkins plan if you normally eat a lot of simple carbs, sugars, bread, etc. because after following the diet for 4 weeks or so, you'll feel awful.
For all my meals, I ate protein (enough for my body weight) with complex carbs and vegetables. I limited high-sugar fruits (banana for example) and instead ate things like strawberries and citrus.
Snacks were protein + a complex carb (Triscuits with cheese, a boiled egg and toast, nuts and half an apple).

Don't cut all carbs, just replace simple whites with denser bronws. Atkins isn't about HIGH FAT - fats are limited, and protein is based on body weight.

I lost weight and was not hungry myself. Please do not go on this diet with 4 kids and stress. You will deprive yourself of too many ordinary needed foodstuffs.

Now here is the thing: The diet worked for me, BUT- I still had to cook for the family, and the cooking led to tasting and I felt as though we were all doing different things and it was not fun.

Only do this diet if your doctor says its ok. As a nursing mother, you need balanced foods NOT the all protein diet that Atkins is.

You see, your dad did not have homemaker duties to perform. He could just get a few slices of cold meat and a piece of sliced cheese and eat it. "Dinner is done" he would say. You , (and me) on the other hand have still got to wash 3 pairs of hands, get the table set, and produce the food, etc etc.

No wonder we snaclk and do not neat proper dietary necessaries.

SOLUTION:
Get some good health food snacks - nourishing bars (not the kind that are just about the same as a candy bar), carrots with a dab of mayo, fruit and veggies raw, and cut out white or processed sugar. In time your weight will stabilize and be where it should be. if you are a little pudgy - you are more cuddly than a skin and bones mommy.

I personally went on the diet but was also exercising as well. I went form 250 to 220 in about 4 months, but the reason I stopped was because I was constantly constipated and was losing a lot of hair, both are known side effects.

My brother and his wife used the Atkins diet and lost a lot of weight. However I personally think it is a dreadful diet full of fat that clogs the arteries leading to heart attacks (what did happen to Mr Atkins?)
