This is my fourth attempt.

I wonder what is more important to us today.?

1. Protecting our children from guns.

2. Denying the marriage between 2 consenting adults.

Both are legal issues that we face today.

Why is getting hand guns and automatic weapons off the streets less important than preventing gay marriage?

Well, the majority of people would rather see guns off the streets and our children protected. Also, from what I've seen, the majority of people really don't care if gays get married; they may have an opinion on the issue, but if it happened, they wouldn't really care or say anything.
However, it's the minority that thinks they're speaking for the majority who are getting things changed, they're the ones whose voices we're all hearing because they're the ones screaming the loudest.
Imagine you had a classroom full of ten-year olds. You ask "What should we do today?" Most of the kids silently mutter that maybe we should do our math problems, because it's the right thing to do. But then you've got that one idiot kid in the back who just keeps screaming and screaming that we all want go for gym class. It's annoying as hell, but when you ask if anybody has a problem with it, the majority of kids just seem quiet because they don't want to get yelled at by the annoying kid.
We've got activist groups out there who scream and rant and fight for what they think the majority wants, and that's why we have issues like what you're pointing out. The majority would probably rather get the guns off the streets, but the small groups keep fighting for their own personal "moral" victories, without really considering if it's really for the greater good or not.
I also want to point out that I'm very pro-hunting and have nothing against firearms, or gun ownership in general, but if you read it, the question states "getting hand guns and automatic weapons off the streets". There's no need for those types of guns to be in that sort of place, that's all I'm saying with that part.

Well, I know alot of people that have went hunting when they were children and their kids do too. They teach their kids of the safety of guns. And we have the right to bear arms. We do not know what kinds of things will make a person snap like that. I have looked on the County jail website and found kids that I went to school with many years ago in there for burglary. They can get guns on the street.
As far as I can say about the marriage issue, I was raised to believe that it was between a man and a woman and in those days it didn't have to even be consenting or even adults. But if 2 people that are the same sex want to get married then who am I to say that is wrong. America is not the same country that it was as being founded on "Christian Morals" and it really doesn't bother me at all what any person wants to do if it isn't something that is intentionally harming another person.

What is more important?

This is a heavily loaded question - Obviously the lives of children are by far, more important. The other issue carries ethical implications.

Being that most child/gun incidents happen inside the home: Gun control in the home should be a non-issue - either you make it impossible for a child to pull the trigger or you get rid of the weapon. There is no middle road, there is no wiggle room. Secure it or loose it.

Children in general coming in contact with a firearm? Either it will be unintentional, homicide or suicide. I believe that to first co-exist with firearms, it will require us to build within children a true reverence for life in order to comprehend the absolute serious nature of lethal weaponry. If life is not first considered precious in the eyes of a child, its value appears trivial right up until the moment someone tragically dies. Likewise, it will take deeper and more meaningful communication to both avert homicide as well as suicide as both of these things can occur with older children.

I have a rather unpopular but rational answer to getting hand guns and automatic weapons "off the streets": Arm more legal citizens until those willing to protect life outnumber those who wish to destroy it by 1000 to 1. Violent criminals deserve to be terrified and if they perceive a 50/50 chance of dying painfully - that would deter all but the most insane.

Regarding same sex marriage. Love is and should always remain a very personal bond between two people with which no society has any right to dictate. This cannot be considered a religious issue because not every citizen of this nation follows identical dogmatics and so it is in my opinion that it is criminally immoral to enforce any rule or law that defines who can love who. As what degree two individuals wish to express their private union, I can only say that it's none of my business.

I read a couple of interesting interviews lately, where this subject was talked about.
CNN Correspondant Roland Martin said, "When did it come to the point that being a Christian meant caring about only two issues, abortion and homosexuality? Poverty? Whatever. Homelessness? An afterthought. A widening gap between the have and have-nots? Immaterial.
It's high time that those not considered a part of the religious right expose the hypocrisy of our brothers and sisters in Christianity and take back the faith. And those on the left who believe they have a "get out of sin free" card must not be allowed to justify their actions."

And former religious right-wing activist, and former staff attorney for the AFA Joe R. Murray said,
“Those on the Christian right, for whatever reasons, have become fixated on homosexuality. They are obsessed by it and perverse form of vengeance appears to be fueling their inquisition. I may be wrong, but I think actions are speaking much louder than words here. The whole gay issue is no longer about the quest for the Truth; it is about fear and loathing. It is about shame and sorrow. It is anything but Christian.”

I agree Gorgeous...getting guns off the street is a vital concern. I don't think this administration will ever do it because they support the gun lobby. I am not so worried about people with a shotgun who does target practice...but those illegal and military style weapons. There is too much senseless death because someone had a gun and things went down.

I really do not care about the marriage issue. It does not hurt anyone and while it may be a sin, the people involved are good people and as long as they are happy, I think their lifestyle is between them and God.

Protecting our children from guns is, by far, more important than 2 consenting adults getting married.

I guess some people are just soooo worried about what those homosexuals are doing that they forget their own children in the process. A shame, really... no wonder we have kids shooting up their schools. Their parents pay more attention to other people than they do to them... gotta do something to make an impact on those zombie parents.

I agree that hunters should be allowed to hunt but some type of control should be in place. After all, what was the young man hunting in the dorm room. Maybe the age for owning a gun should be raised to 25. I wish I had the answer. I feel quite distressed over this kind of a situation. As far as the gay marriage situation, I won't be marrying any women. I believe the practise of homosexuality to be against the laws of God. However, I do not intend to force myself on anyone. Jesus did not force Himself into the hearts of anyone, He pleaded and called. If it came to a vote I would vote my conscious. I think big issue items like this should be put to a national vote; not left up to a few men who will flip flop at the slightest hint of a poll change.

As for protecting our children from guns, many more are killed by drugs and alchol than guns every single day. Whether you like it or not, it's protected by the 2nd Amendment. If you don't like it, then change it. By the way, automatic weapons are illegal already without a license to have one, and that is extremely hard to get.

As to the marriage between two consenting adults, as long as one is a man and one is a woman, I've got no problem at all with it. If they're of the same sex, I do. Not for religious reasons (I'm a Christian, but marriage of one form or another is in every human society there's ever been), but for cultural ones. The societies that have embraced homosexuality, i.e. the Greeks, and towards the end the Roman Empire, fell into decay and died. Whether that's a cause or an effect...I don't know.

They have removed this question before? That is just despicable. Of course to much of the world, gun protection is hardly considered a problem. After all, the media and NRA propaganda machines not only don't want to protect our children, they want to go around handing guns out to everyone and saying "Well, it helps the men hunt." Seriously, like we're still living in caveman days. As far as I recall, men hunted quite well without automatic weapons of any sort or we all would have died off a long time ago.

This is the 20th century and still people are being suppressed and tormented just for being different. I am madly in love with my partner, also a female. Why the HELL shouldn't I marry her? Because the Constitution mentions a man and a woman? Yes, it does. It is also hundreds of years old and in those days slaves were suppressed and tormented as well as those with "unacceptable" religious or non-religious beliefs. Hell, that's happening all over today too. You see, when the founding fathers wrote the Constitution, they utiliized 'amendments'. Amendments can be... (shock and horror!), amended! Like what Lincoln did with the 13th amendment, and the amendments that came of it afterwards. Amendments need to reflect equality for EVERYONE. Period. How sick is it that we are allowing our government and its fundamentalist constituency to make a decision as to whether two people in love with eachother can get married? For those absolute idiots (sorry, I was going to use a nicer word, but this is the nicest one I could think of) who say, "Well, if we let a man marry a man or a woman marry a woman we might as well let some dude marry a sheep and allow fathers to marry their daughters," I say: What kind of demented fool are you? Seriously, I work at respecting others beliefs when they disagree with my own, but that is just utter nonsense. We are talking about two consenting adults here. We no longer put people who don't think exactly like us in asylums to be tortured and rot. We no longer marry women off to their rapists. Get over yourselves! Think! Do you realize just how nonsensical and ignorant you sound?!

As for you, Gorgeous;-), I could not agree more or be happier that you asked this question. I recently put up a blog on gun control and I'd love to know what you think. I was rather enraged and upset because I wrote it in response to the shootings at Virginia Tech, but gun control is such an important issue.

Those of you out there calling gay marriage not just an issue (it shouldn't be), but something that should not occur, are in and of yourselves abominations. To the extremists: You should read the goddarn Bible before you go shooting your mouth off if that is what your point of reference is. The original texts I mean. NOwhere is the word "homosexual" mentioned. It is "fornicator". And most of you have done just that by getting divorced. Are you all going to hell? Tons of you had sex before marriage. I guess you're going to hell too. And let us not forget, you are the people forcing homosexuals to fornicate by NOT allowing them to marry. How very demented is that?

Not that ANYTHING in the Bible is to be taken literally, of course - many Christians only utilize its words when it suits them and quite obviously never bothered to study any of Christ's teachings.

Because guns are for waging war with the physical and atni gay marriage advocates wage war with the soul.

The soul has the bid for publicity, ethics always scream out thru the media...
and just for any who cares, guns on the street is not the problem..it is the people holding them...yet another battle of the soul.
