Elmley is a purpose built local Prison serving all courts in the county of Kent. The establishment opened in 1992 and includes a Category C Unit of some 240 prisoners built in 1997 and a Vulnerable Prisoner Unit delivering the Sex Offender Treatment Programme. In addition there is also a Drug Rehabilitation Unit and Detox Programme. Elmley is one of six Bullingdon design prisons in England and is one of three prisons sharing the site of the Isle of Sheppey.
