Okay, the dog isn't TOTALLY hairless. She has hair on the head, feet and tail (hairless Chinese Crested). I say no based on input from my breeder. My husbands says yes, he would freak and set off bug bombs in my house if he ever found ONE flea.

You can use the Advantix on a hairless dog, it mixes with the oils on the body.

But, do you need to?

Advantix is a good product. I use it on all 5 of my dogs, but I don't have to use it every 30 days as the manufacturer recommends. BUT I keep my yard treated, and I don't have much carpet in my house. Basically I use it when I see a flea on somebody, or if they have been exposed to fleas from another animal or a trip out of my yard.

Remember that Advantix is a chemical, a pesticide.

Just my 0.02.

I have a hairy hairless with fur on mane, tail, legs when clipped and chest and a skunk strip on back when hair grows in. I also have a cat which now stays in most of the time. I was only using Advantix when I noticed fleas but just had an episode that, while on vacation, the pet sitter lost my dog at a farmers market into a heavily wooded area. He was out there for six days before we caught him (with a humane trap). He was loaded with bug bites and had about 150 tiny deer ticks removed. If I had been using Advantix, I would have had to worry so much about tick and other illnesses but now he probably does have Lyme (live in Conn.too) So even if a dog is hairless, I would treat - I have learned my lesson, my dog is precious to me!

Yes of course he'll need flea treatment. Fleas bite the skin and feed off blood, they don't need fur at all. They only really use it to hide in - and Chinese Cresteds have enough to hide fleas in! Remember of course that when fleas are on an animal, they're also present in the environment - fleas can happily live between your dog and your carpet, perhaps with the occasional snack from you and your husband!!

To stop your husband freaking, use a regular flea treatment from the vet - not from the petshop, they're fairly useless. Frontline spot-on will keep fleas off your dog when used every two months - and it will be extra-easy to apply as you won't need to part the fur to make sure it gets on the skin! Hee hee.

Advantix doesn't just repell fleas, it repells mosquitos which carry disease. So if I had to choose between nothing or that, I would choose that.

A better product for your case would probably be Sentinel. It is an all in one package that stops the flea cycle by introducing a drug called lufenuron into the dogs bloodstream so that when the flea bites the dog it inhibits any viable offspring they are able to produce. Same affect but at the same time sentinel also covers heartworm, hookworm, round worm and whipworm.

Yes, fleas do not live on hair, they live on skin cells and blood. It's just easier to see on a hairless dog. Yup, deffinatly treat it!! I'd be afraid of the dog getting fleas and just tearing its skin off with the scratching!

I would regardless of how much hair the dog has... It will also help with ticks and other insects that could bite the dog.
