God does not exist, then when something bad happens in the world they give him full credit for "letting it happen"?

Exactly. Sad isn't it.
or they do not really care if God exists, and do not follow Him, but when something bad happens or is going to happen in their lives, they pray to Him because they are desperate.
God says:
Proverbs 15:29
The LORD is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

-I am not saying it is not good for them to pray to Him, but that they should seek Him always!

Same reason why some claim that god does exist, and yet when an atrocity happens in the real world that god once did in the bible, claim that this one is caused by the evil of man.

Sounds like some may be angry at God so they claim He doesn't exist, but when something bad happens they use it as an opportunity to get back at God by blaming Him for it???

What they don't realize is that if they are a child of God then EVERYTHING (even if we view it as bad) works out for our good and His glory (Rom.8:28). He turns lemons into lemonade.

I don't think those are the same people in both cases. If anything, they may say there's no god and later when disaster strikes may add, if there were a god, why would s/he/it let this occur, but the people saying there is no god aren't giving her/him/it credit, for sure.

God does not exist.

However, people claim he does. So I asked the people who claim he does, "If God exists, then doesn't he deserve the fault? If he created *EVERYTHING*, including our free will and all the choices we could make with it, then he created the possibility for evil, and if he is omniscient, he knew we would choose that possibility with our free will."

I don't believe in a deity, I'm just pointing out that the assumption one exists leads to some rather harsh conclusions.

I'm an atheist, and I never say that. Stuff happens because it happens. No one knows why, no one can really explain it. Blaming or crediting imaginary spirits is a waste of time.

Some people say that so there will be someone to blame.
I've said (and have seen others) who say that to prove a point. To show that the definition of such a deity contradicts itself and does not exist.

Do you have your family tree on paper yet? When you get it on paper I want you to look at the inherited parts of your family tree. Mark down the characteristics: bootlegger, pirate, warlock, witch, wife beater, molester, adulterer, fornicator, murderer --- it's all there. Slanderer, division maker; do you think that's what God created? Do you think God created this mess that we have to unravel. NO!

Who let what happen?

I've known some atheists that have done it, but they're not really blaming a god they don't believe in, they're just trying to reason with Christians. Click here to see what I mean. http://www.whywontgodhealamputees.com

Either to throw it back in your faces or.....

as a proof that God doesn't really exist. Meaning, if he did exist, why would he let that happen.

Only reasons I think of.
