I didn't have to buy her the Christing outfit so i feel like i have to kick in a little extra to the gift. What do you think is appropriate?

I would buy her a savings bond, or a CD or something. Something that will accure intrest over the years. You know something that would help out with possible college tuition.

Or you could do like I did and start a saving account in her name that you could put money in every month and she couldn't touch it until she was 18.

You could also do like my son's godmother and get life insurance on her. One that she could borrow against when she is 16 or 18.

Assuming you are very close to the baby, it would be appropriate to spend $50 or more. Christening is a very big deal, and it sounds like you are close to the family. If you cant afford 50 up front, then perhaps it would be better for you to buy the baby a savings bond. You may want to buy savings bonds every year for the baby's birthday, and they will add up as the baby approaches adulthood. It is unlikely the baby will really NEED all the gifts people buy her over her lifetime, but one can always use bonds, either for college or text books, or dorm living expenses. It might also set a very nice precedent for other friends and relatives.

How about videotaping the event and giving the tape or CD to the mom so that her daughter can watch it when she's old enough.

This event is VERY special for her. Buy her a pair of earings, a necklace, or a bracelet. She wil oohh and aah about it, and she can wear it. Or, I would sya about $100.

Depending on what you can afford, anywhere from $50 - $100 I would say.
