Hi
When you have slept funny this usually means that you have trapped a nerve or a muscle is misplaced.
I have a twisted spine (Scoliosis) and used to do this quite a lot hehe - try some gentle stretching with arms out to the sides and then up over your head, but be gentle - if you do not have gout then aspirin might be helpful.
If your problem persists when sleeping then I would suggest a better mattress for your bed, one that consists of memory foam at least, this to support you more and keep your neck and spine aligned better when sleeping. I use a memory foam mattress with a recess on a adjustable bed and I do not suffer from twisted muscles now and I am slowly getting to being pain free :)
Oh another thing you could do is get some heat on the muscles that are twitching, heat can be very helpful for sore muscles - makes them supple again, if heat does not work for the muscle then perhaps cold would be better, I have instructions for R.I.C.E ( rest, ice, compression, elevation) treatment here http://www.scoliosisnutty.com/page.php?pg=261
I hope that helps and if you also wish to view the memory foam you can do so here http://www.oromedhealthcare.com/recess-mattress.php
All the best

ABSOLUTELY APPLY COLD TO THE PAINFUL SIDE FOR 10 MIN.S I don't mean to shout but as a RN that has worked in emergency rooms for over 30 years, always use cold for the first 12-24 hours. Make a cold compress with ice cubes in a zip lock bag wrapped in a thin cloth. Hold it in place for 10-12 Min's 2-3 times an hour for the first day. Also take over the counter Motrin or Advil as directed. After the first day then use warm moist compress for a day. DO NOT let anyone twist it. The tissues have been over stretched and need to realign to heal. best of luck, I know that a "twisted neck" can be very painful.

Use a heating pad for twenty minutes and afterwards Apply an analgesic balm. Do this several times a day. also take an anti inflammatory medication such as Advil three times daily. sleep on your back even if it's not natural for you. This is going to relieve the stress on your neck.
If you can get a massage that would definitely work out the pain. Nothing beats a qualified massage therapist . It's going to take time if you only use heat and balm, so be patient .
I've also enclosed a link for chiropractors in your area because they can work out the problem very quickly.

Ok so you slept in an awkward position or maybe you caught a draught on your neck.
Apply heat and ice alternatively to the affected area.
10 mins before going to bed at night apply voltoral/ipobrufen gel to the affected area.
This will heat up this area for you and should help you get off to sleep.
You should be back on form in 3-4 days.
You could also take a mild painkiller like panadol to help cope with the pain.

Your neck muscles were probably tensed up for a long period of time as you were sleeping.
Take some ibuprofen to help with pain, and any swelling that has occured. Also apply a hot compress to the area to help relax those muscles.

Stand in front of a wall and put your arms out in front of you...push against the wall with the palm of your hands for about 10 seconds....don't use your body weight.
I suffer from bad neck pains and my GP showed me this...it really works! I usually repeat it a couple of times.
Good luck :)

Apply heat to your neck and take an ibuprofen or naproxen sodium pain reliever. Always helps me.

This happened to me last year. I tried a bunch of different home remedies, nothing helped. I caved and went to the doctor. Turned out I had an inflamation. He gave me a prescription, I took it, I got better. So, if nothing you are trying helps, please make a doctor's appointment.
