My kids 4 and 2 have been at this same daycare for a year...Lately it seems they have me on speed dial...And my kids were sick, but over every little thing they want him to go to the dr and get a return to school note...I undestand not wanting to get other kids sick also. My son was had a rash and was on antibiotics for a whole week - Then THEY noticed the rash, but had me pick him up and go get checked out again and a note saying he could be there....He had diaerra and I had to get him, Since diaerra is a symptom of a few things BUT its also a side effect of a new med he started! My daughter they had me take her to get a Drs note over chapped lips...They looked funky but they were chapped lips!
Is this normal...Also they dont want a kid there after 24 hrs after having a tempature...But they want a note from a Dr saying they cna return.....But a temp I can take that....

I worked at a daycare and as a nanny. The daycare had so many problems, even though they use the best cleaners, and wash everything all the time it is overexposure to multiple kids and germs are rampent. One week the entire staff ended up sick back to back and had to call all the emergency help from another daycare to cover for the numbers of us who couldn't work and half the kids were out too, over a flu.

I worked a few days at a daycare that was reallllllly lousy, the kids hit ewach other, people didn't have enough diapers, kids were sick and coughing and snotting everywhere. I quit after the third day when the director couldn't prove to me that we had enough people to deal with the numbers of children we had. the place was "legal" but it was horrible. I got a flu bug and infected my entire family in that time.

So though you may know you're kids are healthy other parents do not, and they might complain to the director who will have to abide by every tiny little regulation that is there to ensure less contamination. Believe me, I want a director to call me and say that my child is tired, sick, or needs a note. Proof that the money I spend and the place my child spends thier day is careful, safe, and clean.

p.s. as a nanny I made 7-10 bucks an hour, it is the going rate, I had background checks, child safety classes, even infant c.p.r. and knew the routes to the local hospital, all emergency numbers, cooked for families, did laundry, played games, helped with homework, tidied the kids rooms and even hosted playdates so the weekends were 100% just for the parents. For 150 may 200 a week you might prefer a nanny, there are some great services and they work to suit you and assist you, heck they can take the kids to the doctor if you arrange it!

I run and in home day care and ran two Head Start Programs for three years before I started in home. They both have state regulations that have to be followed. I know running the Head Start Programs I just made sure that I told all the parents that no matter when they took the child to the doctor was just to go ahead and get a return to day care slip so that it was to save them the time and effort(even if it's over the weekend). I know that in my state if a child as three diarrhea in one day they are to be kept out for 24 hours and they have to be diarrhea free. I also know with a temperature is 100.5 and they have to be fever free for 24 hours before they can return to work. Unless it teeth and then if they bring a doctor's note stating that the child is running a fever because of teeth than they can return.
Your child's day care should have sick policy that states what the rules are. I know with Head Start we had one and we gave it out every time a child was sick and it stated when the child could return.

Yes, this is probably a regulation that is required for them to be in compliance. It's difficult but it needs to be done, just as a precaution. You should be glad that you have a childcare provider who is concerned with your child's health.

Think of it this way, if it was someone elses child would you want them exposed to something that could be potentially dangerous or make them incredibly ill?

If you would have told them about the rash prior, then you could have asked the doctor for a note with list of side effects, and what the rash was/is. Next time you'll know..an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

i worked at a daycare center, the reason they do this is because of all the children in the daycare, and all the crap that is going around. the empleeys have to do the same thing when they get sick. they do it to protect the other children and the staff, yes it is a pain, but a lot of states recommend them to this just like in a school it is no different, my son had poison ivy and i had to get him from school and take him to the Dr and get a note saying that he is alright to be in school this is their way of protecting them from other parents, children, and etc. see some people are very picky about germs and their children and will like sue over anything, so this is their way of knowing what that your children are well and OK and that the Dr did check them out.

Ive found it varies from daycare to daycare. It might be the same in every contract, but how it is enforced. My kids were sent home after the first nice summer day one year for 3 mosquito bites, daycare said it was chicken pox. They had to be out then for 3 days! One on hand, you do want the other kids sent home to stop stuff from spreading, but some daycares, take it too far.

yes, the day care has to protect itself, you should be glad, would you want a child he has been sick with an infection to return to day care just because the parent says the child is no longer a danger to the other kids, the doctors notes protects your child as well as everyone else
