Thanks in advance. I have a eye round roast. I have always done it in the crock pot - but I thought I might actually try the oven. Am I crazy? Does anyone have a surefire method?

i think everyone has a different way of cooking their roast,, so it really is up to you to eat it thet way you like it:) I like to cut large whole potatoes into 4ths,use half cut carrots and chunks of onions with salt and pepper, and 6 cubes of beef boullion with mine in the oven or crock pot, what I like about the crock pot is it cooks on slow all night long and is so tender good luck

The crock pot it great, but remember to sear the roast on all sides before you put it in the crock pot to seal in the juices. You will be surprised at the difference it makes in the tenderness of the roast. I have made roasts on stove top as well. My experience is that if you use the oven the meat dries out more.

If you really want to use the oven, here is a recipe:

It looks like a good one & recommends the searing, as I did above (browning all sides.) It locks in the juices.

Brown the roast in an dutch oven or fry pan if U don't have one, place it in a casserole dish with a lid and place some sliced onions and salt and pepper over the top and add about 1/2 cup of water and cover and bake at 350 for about hour and half to 2 hours, will be fork tender.

go to the store and buy those oven roasting bags...put the roast with veggies in that and toss it in the oven....great invention and if you dont want to go that route place a big piece of foil in the pain then the roast and what not on top of that and fold the foil over the top of the roast ...keeps all the juices in the roast and makes it sooo yummy also buy a battery powdered digital meat thermometer makes cooking soo much easier also Allrecipes.com has great recipes (i use it all the time :D)

It depends on how you like it. I like the texture of the meat better in the crockpot, but I like the taste better from the oven. I'm one of those well-done kind of cookers and I just think the meat has more flavor from the oven.

You can cook it in the oven, make sure it gets wrapped in foil very very well and that you have some type of moisture making ingredients, like soup or sauce, tomatos, onions. And keep it wrapped the whole time it cooks. Double wrap it with foil.
PS/ I like it better in the crockpot. :)

For a first timer; I recommend you buy the ready made seasoning pkg. w/ the roasting bag. The roasting bag will help assure a moist roast. Mccormick makes a nice one.

Well, you prolly are crazy, but that is unrelated to cooking the roast. Crock is best for eye round, but cook it slow, and lidded! :-)

nothing to it. sprinkle it with onion powder, liberally, and put it in at 350. don't cover it but you can add a little water after a while. makes a great gravy. use a thermometer to cook it to the desired temp. turns out great everytime.
