He was legally here so immigration status is not an issue. The fact that he was a nut case, that's the issue.

What difference does it make what anybody thinks about the shooter's mental state? It's a moot point now - the young man is dead! What, are you going to refer him for treatment? Or are you looking for the hindsight analysts to offer up their wisdom re the events.
This is simply a case of a mental aberrant losing it. Nationality, age, social status, etc., etc., etc., doesn't mean diddly. Occasionally, people (from all walks of life) go bonkers - so let's accept that it will occur and not much, if anything, can be done to prevent it.
Maybe there are some systems that can be put in place that will insure a quicker response, such as surveillance cameras, but the implementation of such systems is usually determined by budget criteria - not common sense.
When all the law suits against Va. Tech are over with, and security policies are amended, we can still look forward, unfortunately, to a recurrance of such a sad event. Maybe not at Va. Tech, but somewhere - that's for certain.

It matters in the inevitable gun-control debate, because it's not legal for an alien on a student visa to obtain a handgun. It turns out he was a permanent resident, not on a visa, so he could purchase guns legally in VA.
Aside from that, it shouldn't be an issue.

It does not, but some like Billiow believe that if immigration laws were followed, illegal aliens would be not phyically present so they would not be breaking the law.

It's early yet. The guy was a resident alien, so he was legally in the country.

The problem is, we have TOO many guns in this country....Look at other first world countries? When do these tragedies happen? They don't, because they don't allow guns....We need to examine our gun laws....
