"People die in different countries every day.
Yesterday was no different. "
Is this really how people feel? Do we not feel sad or mourn unless it is our flesh and blood that is killed? That is what is partly wrong w/ this nation. . .we are all supposed to be brothers and sisters. The thought that some seen the news yesterday and just shrugged their shoulders seems unreal to me. My heart is broken by the events of yesterday. I think it was a sad day for the whole country.

I agree, if it had been my mother, father or sister. . .I would be well, I can't even imagine. But, my heart aches for the families that did lose someone they love. No matter what your belief in the after life is . . .losing someone so tragically. . .it hurts.

No, you're not taking it out of context, and YES that is how many people feel. As awful as it is and sounds. That feeling of it being 'unreal' is what allows us to wage wars like in Iraq. That is also why people say they hate war but don't really bother to try to stop it. Too many of the citizens of the U.S. live in a virtual bubble that remains protected from the reality that exists outside it. They go to work and when they're home they 'unplug'. They've had their daily dose of reality and now they're in la la land with religion, TV sitcoms and 'reality TV' that isn't reality at all, Video games, and they occasionally spend time with their family sharing their 'unplugged' time.
So many people are not interested in reality and when they see it it seems 'unreal' to them.

I agree with you I am stuck to the TV, my heart is crying for all these people. Everyone wants an answer about WHY something like this has happened and I believe you've given it ... SO MANY do not care! To get recognition in this world it seems one must do something crazy. Although everyone seems to care when it effects them personally. I live just a couple of hours from there and l know that Virginia Tech is a beautiful, good school. I just hope one persons insanity doesn't mar the school forever. My prayers are with all involved and with our nation as we bond together.

You are taking that comment completely out of context..... You make it sound like a completely insensitive comment when it was made to prove a point.
Everyone here on Y!A is b!tching about people who are posting questions in regards to the VA incident. As if the questioning should stop because of the tragedy. The world does not stop for death no matter what people want. The stock market continues, the war continues in iraq where hundreds of people die.
People talk about tragedy, people use it for debate...... It's not much different than a news reporter taking initial information & basing their own opinion on the events.
A good debator uses real life events to solidify their credibility. This event to some is proof in favor of their argument. Just because it was a tragic event that doesn't mean that we should stop talking, or questioning HOW this happened.
Of course we grieve for the losses, and we see this as vile a tragedy as the next person...... but the fact that people come in here & use this event in religious debate does not mean that this is what is "wrong w/ this nation."
What is wrong with this nation is people like you who want everything to be YOUR way & when people oppose what your ideas are then you think there is something wrong with them. The fact of the matter is that people handle tragedy differently than others. I myself have never really been phased by death.... So while it is a tragic event, i feel that life must go on because it is only a reminder of how short our lives can truly be. You may not even get an opportunity to say goodbye to those who matter to you the most! So why let this stop us? Why should we stop living our lives when there is nothing that can be done to bring them back?
The world goes on even through personal suffering. All we can do is hope that they are able to cope with the grieving process, and we move on with our lives. No matter how large the tragedy, life still moves on. BUsinesses still ran, and people still went to work when the 9/11 occured & that was much larger than this.
Once again, everyone grieves int heir own way. Surely if the tragedy happened to them personally they would react differently.... but the world would still move on around them. It's the cycle of life. There's nothing that can be done to stop it so why dwell on it? Give me all the thumbs down about it that you want, but it's the truth. The world stops for no one!
Edit: You are taking out of context because the original comment wasn't meant to sound so cold & cruel but you are using it in a way that proves YOUR point. Does your life stop every time you hear about a death overseas? Did your life stop on 9/11? Does your life stop when you pick up a newspaper & read about people killed in robberies or hostage situations? etc etc.... If anything i would say that you are insensitive towards the grieving of others. Not everyone grieves the same way you do. Some people have come to terms with the fact that everyone dies at some point & they move on with their lives in an effort to make the best of it in case their lives are cut short like the lives in this tragedy.

Maybe their point, as you point out, was that we as Americans tend not to get the news around the world. For example, I recently learned that 10 MILLION people died in Niger as a result of famine five years ago, and the infant mortality rate there is 75%.
This isn't to compare catastrophes but just to say that it is true, people die every day all over the world, due to violence or its consequences, and we as a country take no notice at all. I don't think it's helpful for someone to be that cold about yesterday's tragedy, though.
I just try to remind myself that evil never lasts, and that our true nature, that of divine energy, is impossible to destroy or even affect, even though our flesh is wasted. I try to send healing thoughts/prayers to those who are grieving, myself included.

P....peace
E...for everyone
A...accepting this without caring is wrong
C...we need to be complete
E...each day is new , pray this day is not sad in our country again

I think you have taken it out of context. I certainly feel the horror of what happened yesterday, but mourning? I mourn my loved ones, empathy for everyone else. It's not shoulder shrugging, but if I dragged out the black bunting every time someone died tragically, I would never get anything done.

My hearts certainly go out to the families. This is a tragedy for the people in the US but I do understand how people feel. This is common in countries like Africa and Sri Lanka where civil war in parts is the 'norm' and in the middle east as well. God forbid if we become numb by what is happening beyond our shores.

Sadly it's true. Many people today do not feel compassion toward their fellow man.
We should pray for those people that hopefully they were saved. And we can pray for those that were injured, that they will have a speedy recovery.
We are living in the end times, and we will see much more happening, not all is going to be good; but it is written, and we are to look for the signs.

Of course, it is a very sad time -- no doubt about that. Maybe now Americans can realize the sadness that parents in other countries feel when their children are murdered -- such as what happens in Iraq every single day.

What's there to feel sad about?
No, I didn't know them. But I don't mourn the passing of my family & friends either. Death is the inevitable conclusion to life. Life would be pretty worthless if eternal life was an option. Mourning death takes away from time I could be living the limited life I have.
Let the dead bury the dead. I'm too busy still being alive.
