I served in the USMC from 90-96 myself.. we were treatedhard torn down to wisps of humans and then built back up to belive we were indestructable.. thats where the ego comes from going thru so much and surviving it all.. tactics are changing i do agreee the army also now is adopting small unit tactics like the marines have been using forever. The army;s role though is large land assult, the Marines are smaller unit assult they are trained to work in more platoon and squad siuzed units where the army works as batallions and larger. It is untrue about the jobs in the Marine corps... they have full features of job oppertunities wether land or air based, embassy duty, presidential duties or even the band. Promotions are tougher i admit since they use a point system for promotions they don;t have an advancement test like many other services. Joining the service though regardless of what branch is still one of the highest patroitic acts one can commit and I respect all who have and currently do serve

I am appalled at the choice of words you have chosen to express yourself with however, please remember that the very freedom in which you are expressing right now is being guarded by Marines, Army and all other armed forces out in Iraq and other countries. I am a Marine and as a Marine I can tell you that there is a difference between other branches and ours. Son, let me educate you a second. The central reason on why we are set apart from other branches is because we are at the sole control of the President of the United States; meaning that the President of the United States has the power to send in the Marine Corps into a combat zone without Congress’s approval for a period of 30-days. There are other perks as well however; I will only leave you with that one. If congress has kept us around for hundreds of years and have agreed with our training methods who are you to change that? What education or background do you have as a military expert? Did you not make it through Marine Corps boot camp? There is no "brutality" at recruit training, there is discipline. In the battle field, Marines know that orders have to be followed. If a young subordinate has time to question an order of his superiors, dozens--possibly thousands could die. This is what we instill in recruit training. Not "brutality!" Furthermore, when you join the Marines you first learn to follow in order to become an effective leader. Something you obviously know nothing about. It's not slavery, it's experience. There is no job in which a person will start out at the top. Everyone must learn the ropes of their respective professions and move up the ranks. As far as job-training for post-enlistment, there are many. Frankly, it all depends on what that individual Marine chooses as an occupation. In addition, from personal experience, the simple fact of being a Marine raises an employer’s interest in the person. This has been proven time-and-time again throughout the years. In closing, I regret that you feel this way about the Marine Corps however, rest assured that the Marines currently fighting in Iraq will continue to shed their blood to allow you the right of freedom of speech.

You're damned right we're a very proud organization !!!! If indeed you were in the Corps you would have more pride than what shows in this tirade. Not everyone can hide in the rear with the gear like apparently you did. Anyone discharged from the Corps honorably has a "can do" attitude that is attractive to employers. You talk about doing away with the Corps, it is not possible that you were ever in the Corps to have made a comment like that !!! The Corps is the smallest branch of the armed forces yet they carry the majority of intense battles. You were never in the Corps you are a wannabe so go sit on the porch and don't try to run with the big dogs!!

Marines tend to be more egotistical, but they have good reason to. Their bootcamp is way harder than that of any other branch, they have the highest physical and discipline standards, and consequentially, they perform better than the Army. Korea-when the army was retreating, the Marines fought their way out. Chosin Reservoir. Look it up. WW1-the Marines were rated storm-troopers by the Germans at the battle of belleau wood. And those are just two of the many examples.
There are over 500 jobs in the MC. I'm sure your friend could find something he likes. As for the abuse of boot camp, quit yer bitching. Just cuz you're afraid and probably couldn't hack it, doesn't mean your friend couldn't.

The Military is not a school you Nut Job, it is the Military. It is the Armed Forces a Place you are Trained to Fight To protect and serve your Country not learn to do math and English and train to be something in college what you learn in the Military is above and beyond school. That is why they offer the GI BILL... Why do we need two land Armies...because the Army couldn't handle the Job son. Get off your high horse about the Marine Corps and ask any Marine what they think your talking about. You are a disgrace to the Marine Corp if indeed you were a Marine. I have never heard a Marine talk like that. Good God what is this world Coming too. Semper Fi Remember that??? Semper Fi!!!

That exactly right! We are very egotistical people, because we know we are the best. Slaves, i don't think so! Jamie fox said it best in jar-head when he said "I thank god for every day in the marine corps" The pride that comes with wearing the EGA is forever! Not every one is cut out to be a marine that's what the army is for. If the army is so capable, then why do the marines always go in first To get the job done right.
I wont sit here bashing any of our nations armed forces i have respect for them all, but hands down the USMC's training, discipline, and pride are unmatched by any other branch.
And for those who say the Marine Corps is a department of the Navy, thats right the Men's Department

About the only thing the USMC doesn't have is a medical field (Navy takes care of that) and they're not able to transport themselves overseas (Navy and Air Force take care of that) but other than that, there's pretty much anything anybody would want to do in life in the Marine Corps from electronics to mechanical stuff.

Are you a vet? Are you active? I am, and I know a lot of Marines and Marine Vets. I have never heard one single Marine with the same gripes as you displayed. I'm a Navy Vet myself and have worked in many operations with the Marines. I'm also thinking you know very little what it is like to be a Marine or your just a non-hacker. I won't apologize for my words because sometimes the truth just hurts, and your stepping on toes that don't deserve it. I'm proud of my service and I'm proud of the people I've had the honor to serve with. That includes the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Marines. Thank-you for allowing my input in this matter.

awwwww, poor you. NOT
IT'S THE MILITARY. Did you expect them to play mommy? Or maybe to fluff your pillows and be nice? You dont hear WW II vets bit*chin. The Marines ARE the best, though I do not beileve that there is any branch that should be left out of our prayers and pride for this country.
Army can accomplish everything without the Marines huh? That's why it took until 2003 for the Marines to be an occupying fource. Unlike the Army, the Marines makes you WORK for your rank.
I'm not going to keep going with this because you are stupid and have no idea what you're talking about. I think you're just mad because the uniform wouldnt get you any women.
GOD BLESS AMERICA, GOD BLESS OUR MILITARY, and SEMPER FI
