I'm not sure I fully understand the meaning behind the question. The simple is that yes all words have power. Sometimes the power is just to cause people to think about new information. Or they could stir up people's emotions and cause them to move to action. As an example, the word "Fire" shouted in a crowded place will move people to panic. It is a word with tremendous power to cause change and response. Other words provide less immediate or significant. All words have power, which is why we this website where people ask questions and exchange responses. If they didn't have power, we wouldn't be here writing them.

Now, if you were asking whether words have the power to affect spiritual forces, I would also have to answer yes. This is the foundation of prayer. Many people throughout history and the world have explained that prayers have been answered. Sometimes prayer has a greater effect on the people praying, preparing their hearts and minds to see God's presence in the world. So, yes, all words have power, especially words of prayer.

There are several possible meanings to what you asked. If by "words having power" you meant...

1) My words can be used in a magic spell, that will affect the world at large...
I would say "no." I do not believe in magic.

2) My words can be formed into prayer, and God can affect the world at large...
I would say "yes and no." The words themselves have little meaning, but only convey our thoughts to God. God understands the meaning behind our words, the thoughts behind the utterances.

3) My words can be spoken to others, who will be affected...
I would say "yes." Words are a non-binding contract between people that certain sounds mean certain things. If I say, "I love you," to you, it has a certain meaning. However, if I said "Je t'aime" (I love you, in French) to a person who did not speak French, the meaning is lost. So to two people who agree on the same words, that spoken language has the potential to cause a whole range of emotions...and thus have power.
Do not be mistaken, though. The power in the words is given by the receiver...not by the speaker.

Simple: Just look at what Hitler accomplished with his words.
Commonly it is said that Hitler was able to invade so effectively because of his armies and because they were ruthless, but while that may be true, Hitler accquired his power for the right words at the right time.
Words manipulate, delve deep into the conciousness whether you accept them or not, words communicate, thus I would certainly say that my words have power.

absolutely. We have been given the power to speak either life or death. What I mean by that is this: When you speak positively to someone or about a situation, you are actually speaking life into it, nurturing it, feeding it. The effect of speaking negatively has an absolutely opposite effect, for it speaks death. This is one of the gifts we have recieved from Our Father In Heaven. Give Glory to Him by choosing your words carefully that they might spring a well of hope and life!

Yes, absolutely, and so I try to use them carefully.

Marion Weinstein's "Positive Magick" was my first-ever Witchy book, and she wrote a lot about using "Words of Power." Ultimately, all words are words of power, and she encourages you to speak to the God and Goddess in your own words and to be mindful of your own words in everyday life. I try to apply those lessons, though sometimes it's hard (as some of you have seen here.)
