I'm thinking of moving there and haven't decided on which island. I'd like to be able to play on all the islands as a resident and not at those fancy, expensive tourist traps.

Thanks for reading the question Rasta. I'm asking about all the Islands in general, not just the Honolulu area.

didn't you ask this question before....about the 4-hour round?

oops..sorry render, my bad...didn't read the question carefully.
Outside of Oahu, I know only of Kauai with a municipal golf course: Wailua G.C. The thing about these munis is that you can't beat the price. I know you mentioned weekend golf, but if you can somehow squeeze in a 9-hole round on the weekday afternoons, you pay just $6!!! Cheaper than a movie!

But Oahu, really is the place to move, if you want to golf. Again, the Honolulu/Waikiki area is tough, since there really is only Ala Wai G.C. and Pali, but on the Leeward side (west side of the island), there are 3 munis within 15 minutes of eachother.

And the thing about not being able to play golf because of the cost of living...or whatever those women posted above me: bunch of baloney. I live on Oahu and golf once a week. I could golf a lot more, but the thing that's stopping me is NOT my job or bills--it's my wife! The lesson: women always make golf hard. Just kidding, ladies.

Oahu has the most reasonable prices. Lanai has two golf courses which are ridiculous Manele Bay and the Lodges at Koele....VERY EXPENSIVE. I think Kauai has only one municipal course and other very very beautiful ones that are pricey. Same pretty much goes for Maui and the Big Island. Oahu is the place to be for golf as far as prices go. You can golf for under 20 bucks during the week at pretty decent courses. Or you could pay 60 bucks on the weekend and play at very very nice courses.

Of all the islands, Oahu has the most Golf Courses. The only way you will get into a golfing tourist trap is if you play at Turtle Bay or at the Kahala Mandarin.

The vast majority of all of Hawaii's golf courses are either private country clubs or courses hooked on to the resorts. If your idea of a public course is publicly or privately owned muni charging under $50 for greens fees, your choices are extremely limited.

The resorts do offer Kamaaina rates for locals but you are looking at daily fees in excess of $50.

ordinarily Oahu. the different islands have buses that run now and returned. in case you do no longer desire to hire a vehicle, yet desire to bypass outdoors Oahu, it truly is ideal to bypass to a motel section, like Poipu on Kauai, Kailua Kona on the super Island of Hawaii, or Kaanapali on Maui. you would be waiting to get around regionally with the aid of motel limo or taxi. Public transportation in Hawaii different than interior the Honolulu section is often for locals, and not that handy for travelers. I in many situations see a public bus on Kauai, despite the fact that it runs between residential factors, figuring out to purchase factors, and the community college, to no longer places vacationer could desire to bypass to.

Unless you're retired, you won't have much time for golf once you move here. Hawaii is expensive and we have to work to pay our bills -- just like mainlanders do. Some people here even work 2 jobs just to make ends meet! Have you done any research on living here or is it just a pretty fantasy for you? Visiting and living here are two very different things. Don't kid yourself into thinking you'll have a bunch of free time to golf...unless you're a pro golfer or something.

In my opinion, we have too many golf courses here!

It's not like local people have time to play.......we're too busy working to pay for the high cost of living here!
