They can find out if the vehicle has been stolen, the owner of the tags, and if the tags are current. They would need your drivers license in order to determine any other information (tickets, warrants, etc)

Well, I'm going to assume that the Canadian system is not too far of from the U.S. system - who the car is registered to and their information, as well as the car's information (make, model, year, color, etc.).

And also, if the car or license plate has been connected to any crime or suspcicious activity recently, that will come up as well.
