I pray that I will be directed in the way that I am supposed to go and that I will have the strength and courage to follow through.
There was a time that my two kids and I were all alone. I was working a job that was 7 bucks an hour, trying to raise a family on it. I prayed that the Lord would supply our needs. I didn't pray for a new PlayStation for the kids or a fancy car for me. I simply prayed that someway somehow I could keep the electricity on and buy the groceries.
I can't tell you how many times I got a bill backed marked paid in full, or a person I hardly knew handed me money, I can't tell you of the times I would be on the phone w/ a bill collector and they would say, "Hang on and let me see what I can do, or we never do this but I'm gonna try". I look back over it and there is no way no how I can explain how I made it. I even kept my check register from that year because it is plain as day that my monthly bills were much greater than my pay.
I remember standing at the gas pumps clutching my last 13 dollars. . .I put it all in the gas tank to get the kids and I home and so that I could come back out to work the next day. I told my mom there is no way I am gonna make it, she told me to have faith and to remember every time the Lord brought me through the impossible. The next day I came to work thinking whatever, I got handed randomly from people over 200 dollars, I paid the couple of bills I had and had enough left to buy the gallon of milk I needed and some pop tarts for the kiddos. I kept working and working, never giving up and knowing that I was on the right path because God had made a way for me. Today, my kids and I live in a beautiful home, the cupboards are full, the bills are paid and I am next to the highest paid female in my corporation. Thank you, Lord!

I've never prayed for money or success. Yes, I would admit it. I find that money and success would be a shallow thing to pray for if that's what I decided to do. Best to you.

If you had prayed for these things, why would you not admit it? Every time you pray and ask God to take care of you and your family, is that not in a way asking for money, because you need money to survive. And a success is taking care of family and their needs.
Is your question pertaining like to be rich and famous? If so, then my answer is NO.

I have prayed for sucess, financial-speaking, in the past. I don't anymore. The more I study the Bible, the more I believe financial success is something we should avoid:
1) A verse mentions that its more difficult for a rich man to attain salvation than for a camel to go through the eye of a needle (Jesus is using hyperbole, but you get the point); remember, you don' t have to be Bill Gates to be rich - Americans, even poor Americans, are rich compared to most of the world
2) Riches are a snare to figures in the Bible - how many evil kings were there in the Bible? Additionally, even the "good" kings were ensnared by riches, as is evidenced by David's foolish glorifying of his himself, to the anger of God.
I do pray for my "daily bread," and in financial difficulties, I call out to God for help (which he has helped me in, time and time again, explicitly and miraculously).
But I agree with what I think you're trying to get at - it is hypocrisy. To me, I think that money is easily the biggest snare for Christians today. Even pastors, deacons, small group leaders and the otherwise "spiritually mature" want the American dream. They live in big houses, with nice cars and all the comforts of life.
This wasn't the gospel Jesus preached. This wasn't the way the church of Acts lived.

Never pray for money. Pray every day that God's will be done in my life. And to give back that what the devil stole from me. God Bless. Read your Bible the best way to pray is in there.

Is there something offensive about asking for financial blessings or success?
The bible holds many promises from God and one of them is that we will live more abundantly. There is nothing wrong or shameful with the Lord blessing you with nice things. If you are sowing your seed, you are entitled to the harvests of that.
I have a house and a better job for my husband on my prayer list. What's the big deal as long as I am serving my Lord and doing his work? If he does not want me to have it, then it is something I won't receive....but there is no harm or wrongdoing in asking.

I've never prayed for money, but I have prayed that I be successful in a particular endeavor if it be the Lord's will.

I've prayed that God give me enough to pay my bills, but I've never prayed for great riches or wealth. I've never prayed for success -- I trust God will put me exactly where He needs me.

I have prayed for both...and got both. As long as it is for a good cause e.g. "Could i please have some extra money to give to my mum and dad because they are having money problems?" then your dad gets like a random bonus at work then it's alright.
As long as it is for a good cause.
(I can't remember what it was with success.)
