He will be turning 7 and is very interested in outer space and planets. He doesn't like aliens too much but loves the science museum. Any bright ideas on what I should do?

-My first idea is "the obvious"--take them to the museum with friends
-My second idea is Lazer Tag
-My third idea is visiting a Planetarium
-My fourth idea is going camping with a few best friends and looking at the stars at night.

Well, you could do a special room up......like his room or something, and put those glow in the dark stars and planets up on the ceiling. Maybe a strobe light going on, or some neat lava lamps. Maybe have one of them pop up tents and some sleeping bags, check out some books in the library on space. Have a big boys sleep over party. For a game, you could make paper mache' planets or rocket ships. All that takes is some water, flour, paste, shredded newspapers, and paint. Might be a little messy, so you could do it outdoors, or put down some big trash bags to do it on. Just an idea. That's what you wanted right? lol. Good luck and have fun.

Places: Museum with his friends, laser tag, and maybe the iMax movie about outer space

Games: laser tag, space-shaped pinata, pin the ring on Saturn, don't go too close to Jupiter (someone is Jupiter and they try to tag a person, if they get tagged they freeze and then the last person out wins, oh yeah, and Jupiter wears something red that you buy), and musical planets (like musical chairs but instead of music and stuff, you say a planet and there are 3-10 planets of each depending on how many people, and the people go to that planet, if you get the wrong planet, no planets have letters written on them, then you are out, if you have no planets left, take the person/persons out who cannot "land" on that planet!

Ideas: Order a special space cake with all the planets and one extra planets, it is your child's head with either rays or a ring on it! Hannaford is a good place! And also, get planet tablecloths, napkins, plates, etc.

If you're on a budget, I love the idea of a backyard campout under the stars. You can rent the movie "star wars" , make "SLIME" (recipe on the internet), Have the boys put together and paint their own space ships or robots using saved cereal boxes, toilet paper tubes, etc (there is a book in our library that give specific ideas on how to build your own). This craft was HUGE HUGE success with my 6 year old during the long cold winter. In fact, ask parents of the guests in advance to please donate empty boxes and tubes.

Museums and plantetariums probably offer similar crafts and activities but at a higher cost but less mess for you to clean up.

Go to tryscience.org and get some fun experiments, the messier the better, then call the party something like "little johnny's slime lab" and let parents know to put the kids in old clothes. Otherwise call the museum too, most host parties.
