I didn't sleep well laast night, so the coffee is making me shaky... I think I've let the news get to me too much... but for whatever reason, I'm feeling very anxious and miserable this morning. I do have ativan for emergencies, but I prefer not to take it unless it really is an emergency because it is highlyaddictive. I've heard that there are soe foods thathelp. Does anyone know what some are?

Thanks, all! I am on Zoloft, but I'm on a lower dose than I used to be on because it made me too lackadaisical, so now I'm trying to deal with my "new chemistry." I practise yoga four days a week. I do eat sweets, but I find that I get a "crash" a little while later. And alcoholic drinks can be lovely on occasion, but I doubt they'd go over well at work! I think I will try the fruit juice suggestion... I know you're all right about the caffeine, but I love my coffee so much! :-( *sigh*

Look into Paxil if you suffer from this a lot. I was anxious to some degree for a long time until my doctor suggested it. It is not habit forming(I know because I am off it now) and it worked like a charm(once they got the dose right). Also anxiety can lead to greater health risks in the furture if not treated properly(hypertension and heart damage). Good Luck!

As far as food goes....you could be hypoglycemic which means your blood sugar level drops too low and you get the shakes and dizzy and you feel like you want to sleep. Take 4 teaspoons of sugar(or equivelent food with sugar but sugar will work the fastest). Wait 20 minutes if the feeling goes away(but you still feel drained) then it's hypoglycemia not anxiety. They present the same symptoms.

If you have anxiety attacks or are a naturally anxious person coffee is the WORST! It can actually lead to anxiety attacks for me so I tend to stay away from caffeine in general. Try cutting coffee out of your life and see if it takes any effect on your anxiety. Im sure it will.

Try foods like seeds, fruits, nuts and other natural organic foods. Try drinking de-caf green tea or other flavored teas as they can be soothing and relaxing. My favorite is Jasmine tea because the smell is very soothing.

Good luck, trust me I know how you feel!

Foods are not usually effective sublingually...(under the tongue) They require digestion in order for your brain to gain any benefit from them and have to be processed by the lower intestines. .

Maybe try Bach Flower essences. I do not know for sure that they work or not? But try it, what could it hurt?

They work sublingually (under the tongue) gaining access to the bloodstream directly. Therefore are processed in such a way that your body gains the benefits immediately rather than having to wait for the lower intestines to process them as in the case of most pharmaceutical medicines.

There is one called "Rescue Remedy."

I have never used them myself so I can't say if they work or not... But what the heck right? Most doctors use you as a guinea pig to see what will work or not so why not try something natural?

I know you love your coffee... Starbucks brand is so strong it often doesn't matter if it is decaf or not... Try decaf.

Avoid caffiene! Caffiene alone can trigger a panic attack especially if you're already feeling tired and a bit anxious over not sleeping. Since you're feeling shaky from not eating or sleeping, eat your usual breakfast foods. Some carbs like bread will probably help. You probably don't want chocolate = more caffiene. I'd go with a bagel and cream cheese and some yogurt.

Chamomile tea, no sugar. If you can find chamomile with lavender, that's even better!
