find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
dont try to lose more than 1-2lbs a week - its not healthy to lose more.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried - no junk food.

Count your calories. Figure out how many you eat a day normally, then subtract 500 from everyday. That should cause a one pound loss every week. If you want quicker results, lower your intake to 1,200 calories a day, but do NOT go lower than that. Don't forget to exercise at least 30 minutes a day! Stay away from foods with the first ingredient as "high fructose corn syrup". I've also read that if you are not sure of how many calories you should take in, multiply your weight by 100. That will give you an amount you can lose on. So if you weigh 150 pounds, you can lose by eating 1,500 calories.

The one and only way which works for the long term is a combination of diet and exercise. Simply put, burn more calories than you consume on a daily, regular basis, and you will lose weight as your body burns fat to get the calories it needs to balance the accounts. Consult a nutritionist on what you should eat and in what quantities, and then a fitness expert on exercise and then make your balance on calories negative. Burn more than you consume through a combination of what you eat and what you do every day. This is exactly how programs like Jenny Craig work, with their life style adviser and their prepared food. They know what you are consuming exactly provided you are honest about following their program and what you tell them you are doing for exercise. Your doctor can advise you on what your weight should be for your age, body style and bone structure. Generalities do not apply when it comes to what is the right combination for you, but the one which applies to everyone is that if your burn more than you consume, you will lose weight. Oh, and it is not necessary for it to hurt for exercise to be a benefit.

Well, unfortunately the best answer is always diet and exercise. ( I mean there's no magic pill, and surgery is dangerous ) I really like the Weight Watcher's points plan. You can go to a meeting or just sign up online, it's good for those of us w/ busy lifestyles. It was easy and worked well for me. I lost 20 pounds in 2 months. ( I am a full time employee, mother, wife, and Nursing school student, w/ no time to plan my meals, I don't cook at all anymore and gained the weight back, but I plan to try again when my schedule calms down )

As far as losing weight goes your best bet is never a fad diet or starving yourself.... Eat healthy foods and exercise... simple as that... there are no secrets to good health... you just need to apply yourself... Burn more calories than you take in... avoid fatty and sugary foods that aren't providing any real nutrition... no one ever gained too much weight from fruits and veggies...
