I think if you care and show it it does make a difference and it can improve the situation
doing charity work shows you care
you put in the time and energy so you ve made a difference
visiting old neighbours with fruit baskets is another way
or reading to the ill in hospice care
lots of little things you can do
when i go shopping sometimes theres an issue guy waiting outside and i always ask if he could do with a drink and i buy him a can of juice or give him some fruit he seems to think ive made a difference

A very close friend of mine was just accidentally hit by a woman head on on his way to work and died. He had three different "wakes". One at the University where he was a psychology professor, one at his birth place far away, and one where he lived and commuted from.
I could not believe how many people were there. It was the same at all three. It was not the typical wake where people go up to the casket and pay their respects but like this:
One by one people came up to the front of the room where his ashes, a photo of him, flowers, and lit candles were on a table. Each person lit one more candle and placed it to float in a huge water filled bowl. Then each person said something about him. What the common thread spoken was was about how much he cared about everyone. After each person spoke about how he affected their life, family, friends, students, they said, "Thank you Chip."(his name) spontaneously.
He had touched everyone's life in a different way but each person spoke about how much he cared about everyone.
At the University, there was a huge heap of flowers at the door of his office not soon after the news was announced.
There were always students in his office that he was helping.
He made a difference and you can too, by caring. You will never know how you make another person feel by just taking a fraction of your day to show you care, even if a passing smile as you walk by or an off handed compliment to someone who is having a rough time, like a tired cashier at the grocery store who has children and a sick mom to care for when she gets off work.
You never know someone's story behind those eyes, but taking a few seconds to show you care just a little bit can change a persons whole day around. Or in Chips case, a few minutes changed whole lifes around. He was well appreciated and loved by so many.
In the 23 years I knew him, I never ever heard him speak ill of another person. Ever. He was always there to help. If he didn't have time, he would ask you to return or call back so he could help. Amazing man, in the least.
Caring can change someone's life.
He did mine.

Yes.
I even took the time to answer your question. Doesn't that make a difference?
