Some substances that occur in urine as a result of infection can be tested for instantaneously with a dipstick (resulting in color change or no color change, as with a pregnancy test). A full urinalysis only takes a few hours to perform, but that doesn't count transport time to the lab. Not to mention, you don't know how much time passed between the lab receiving your sample and actually conducting the urinalysis. If the lab is busy at present, I could see it taking several days. If they actually ran a culture on the urine, it could take even longer. The culture itself would take a few days, so transport and in-lab delays could make it take a full week.

A lot of times my urologist will look at my urine microscopically while I am in the office to determine if there is a bacteria present. A dipstick can also be used to find bacterial products (nitrate converted to nitrate by some bacteria) or white blood cells in your urine which would be suggestive of a urinary tract infection. If your urine is sent to the lab for culture, etc, it could take several hours up to a few days depending on how busy they are.

You might have urinary track infection. Your doctor might have given you some antibiotic. Take it completely as directed for 10-15 days. That therapy should take care of it.
