You can live without food but not water. You will be very hungry but you will survive.
During fasting, metabolic rate falls gradually and after a month of total fasting, resting metabolic rate is reduced by up to 30% and fat
becomes the body's main fuel source. Total energy expenditure falls because of a reduction in spontaneous activity and also the absence of dietinduced thermogenesis. The resting metabolic rate falls, due to a reduction not
only in the metabolically active cell mass of the body, but also in cellular metabolism. Although a direct relationship can be shown between alterations in thyroid status and resting metabolic rate, it is less clear that the changes in thyroid hormone levels during starvation can explain the observed changes in resting
metabolic rate.

Many people fast for three or four days on a routine basis as a way of cleansing the body. There is nothing wrong with it if you know what you are doing. I wouldn't do it with the purpose of losing weight or anything. If you are going to do it, just be sure you are well informed and have enough fluids going into you. I'm sure you'll feel a little weak and irritable by the time the three days is up but if you did this on a more regular basis, your body would adjust.

My first husband died in 1998, I was in shock and dealing with the trauma for the first few days... and having to deal with the arrangements for a funeral as well! I mostly sat in my comfy chair and did not eat, sleep, or drink anything for 3 days... it was not by choice, I just had no appetite, or desire to do anything at all! The 4th day was the funeral, I was going through the motions, like a zombie... but did finally get some food after the funeral....... It was a hard time, my kids and I were each going through our challenges with our loss of their father! I know that I had alot of help from other people, mostly family, to help me get my life back together again...
I do not recommend that anyone go for 3 days without eating,
and do not go for very long without drinking water either! I do believe a person can "fast" for up to 24 hours without harming themselves... but no extremes ok!

Not eating for three days is hardly dangerous. There are certain tests and operations where one cannot eat three days prior. Yes, it is possible to faint, but very rare if you follow certain guidlines. You need to keep very hydrated, water, oranje juice and milk. However, stay away from things like Gatorade or Powerade. It is possible you would feel fatigue, but nothing serious. Three days without water is dangerous though, and you would have a serious risk of actually dying. But as for food, three days without it should be fine.

When I got my wisdom teeth out I didn't eat anything for almost 2 weeks. I got really tired and irritable and I didn't have much energy to do anything. I also didn't eat for a few days after I got my appendix out, but because that was expected I got an IV with glucose as well as the normal saline solution. When that happened, I got hungry, but it was fairly ignorable.

I don't have to not eat for 3 days to pass out and feel weak. I went 1 day without eating and I passed out while I was driving my car and ended up in the corn field.

If you are interested in fasting and the right way to do it, check out some Web sites. There are some benefits, but follow the rules if you want to not have the side effects and not endanger your health.

The result was hunger, fatigue, difficulty in concentrating. However the situation was much worse than the symptoms of fasting.

You can do it but when you are ready to eat again you are either going to be hungry as hell or sick as heck. Starving yourself is never a worthwhile cause.
