If Right Wingers weren't so high on Jesus, would that make them less inclined to.....

1) buy and keep guns around the house.
2) support a war mongerring president (who also claims to be high on Jesus)
3) If they weren't so convinced of an eternal afterlife, would they have more value for human life?

Sigh... I have to say, I have wondered some of the same things.
I was raised in a very large Christian family - My Father, was a traveling Evangelist and my Uncle and my Grandfather, Pentecostal Pastors. I have been in Churches all around the country, sometimes seven nights a week.
I moved out on my own when I was 17 and only then, was finally able to voice my concerns... Why do we oppose abortion but support killing children in war? Why do we say "Thou shalt not kill," but support killing when it's done by the state or the military? Of course those questions were met with the answer of "we don't support it, it's just a tragic necessity" or we're a Christian Country and we have to protect ourselves - so God gives us permission. (Funny how it's never a tragic necessity to lie, or covet, or steal and God doesn't give us permission to break those commandments)
Sadly, more blood has been shed in God's name than for any other reason.
I think that a lot of people believe that if they just CLAIM to be Christian, and quote a few things that they have been told that they have Moral Superiority. They can pick and choose from which rules to follow and ignore the rest, claiming "I'm only human” and "God is a forgiving God."
The problem comes with not bothering to think for themselves - the old "God works in mysterious ways" is the perfect out for having to analyze your own beliefs.
I think having "Faith in the Lord" wouldn't be the problem if that were truly the case. Unfortunately, I think it's more often a case of having faith in what "some guy" told them to believe. I don't think that it's their faith that is preventing people from being the good people they want to be I think that it's more a case of intellectual laziness. Please, understand I'm not saying they are stupid - they just haven't bothered.
"No need to think for yourselves there, I've already done it for you"... "Just pray, worship, and go shopping - we'll take care of that hard thinkin' stuff.”
It's been going on forever. Since back in the Crusades, Politics has equaled Religion and has been used to say "don't think, just kill and God will reward you."
Sick…but effective it seems.

Buying and keeping guns around the house isn't only done by "Right Winger Christians". Plenty of non Christians and non "right wingers" own and keep guns around their house. I don't believe that our president is a war mongerer. I believe that we are in a bad situation that could be made worse if we withdraw our troops only to have a full blown religious war (because it would become shiites vs sunnis for the whole region not just Iraq) Acting too quickly might just make things worse, so lets make sure things are thought out and planned with better intelligence than the first go around. I support my president because he is the president, the commander in chief for the full term he is in office, not just until his approval rating gets low. I may or may not have voted for him, but he is in charge and I will support him because of that. I value life immensely, and I believe in an afterlife. I believe that without religion and the morals that it brings, we would be in a lot worse shape in society. Look at how crime has exploded since our nation has turned away from being a religious nation to being secular. People have no moral compass to judge life from. the "whatever makes you feel good" way of living seems to forget to consider how your actions impact your life and others. We need to wisen up as a nation and quit blaming everything on someone else. Start taking responisbility for your actions, be responsible for yourself, and quit whining!

You must mean people like Stalin, right? What was his final death toll? About 30 million. An atheist.

Or do you mean the Christian nation that had 295,000 servicemen killed to defeat Hitler and Japan. Most of the dead were Christians. Sometimes, in viewing my country today, I wish they hadn't.

So, Bush is a warmonger? And the Senate voted overwhelmingly to invade Iraq? Is Billary Clinton one of these right wingers? She voted for the war and still supports it. Btw, she and Bill are Christians.

And, what value did the 9/11 highjackers have on human life?
And should we have waited until the next time? Or the time after that? Was Iraq better off under Saddam?

And just how does a gun in my house have bearing on your safety?

You should do a little homework before you speak. You are what now? 14 or 15?

One of the answers is funny in an "I can't believe someone actually said that" kind of way.

I was going to say "do you believe there are some morons who are actually saying that if the kids were allowed to guns to class then this kind of thing might not happen...?"

Honestly, here's a scoop: if there aren't guns available, then people can't shoot anyone, right? Yes, there will always be weapons on the black market, "criminals" will always be able to get their hands on them if they want to. But was this guy a criminal prior to his "spree?" I can't guarantee he wasn't, but as I understand it he was just a very screwed up young man. The only difference between him and some of the guys I went to Uni with is that he happened to have easy access to guns. That and my friends are still alive, of course.

What about accidental shootings in homes? Many of them involve children - do we just shake our heads and say "well, it's a shame, but they'll be going to Heaven so no harm done?"

I don't have statistics to hand - it's quite possible the "well-armed" communities have lower crime rates than the semi-armed ones. But I'll bet you the ones without legal arms have the lowest shooting rates of all.

Bush is also a moron, but I ain't telling anyone anything new. I'll never forget his lap-dog Rumsfeld - sorry, former lap-dog, someone had to fall on their sword over the Iraq invasion - saying with a straight face "we will win because we hold the moral high ground." I'm not American so I can't be ashamed of my citizenship, but I was ashamed to be human that day.

I think you are right and I think that is part of the reason why both Bush presidents wanted to go over to the middle east and kill Arabs. I honestly think they wanted to stir up the middle east and they didn't care how many lives were lost.

I heard a funny story (Not haha funny) from some vets when I was a child. They said killing Japs was ok cause they were unholy and were going to hell. The men they lost was sad but they were going to heaven for fighting god's war.

It is not a fact that communities that have guns have less crime. It is a fact that communities in Canada and the UK that have outlawed hand guns all together have way lower crime rates. Sister check your facts before you pass off an opinion as a fact.

1. I don't own any guns, and thinking about it, I don't know anyone who owns guns, except for my boyfriend who goes hunting. AND I live in TEXAS!

2. Hmmmm, seems everyone forgets 911.

3. I value my life. I value the life of others. Using the campus shootings as an example. Tell me where a Right Winged Christian ever went on a shooting rampage and killed innocent victims for no reason. (I don't consider war "no reason")

It would be wonderful if there were no wars, but as long as evil exists in this world, and greed, there will be wars.

Yes, I am a Christian, and I would proudly defend my country. If you were being invaded at your doorstep, I'll bet you that you will defend yourself and your family!

The President is trying to prevent it being at our doorstep. I'm 100% behind him.

You shelter your faith via residing your existence the way Christ needs you to, with humility, love, and kindness to others. So even however they persecute you on your perception, yet they could be ashamed via your reactions. "conserving a sparkling judgment of right and incorrect, so as that people who talk maliciously against your good habit in Christ could be ashamed of their slander." a million Peter 3:sixteen

Well I don't know about Christian Right Wingers in general but I would imagine ANY fundamentalist movement that believes it is superior and ENTITLED to dominion over others and must dictate what EVERYONE has rights to or not have rights to according to its own dogma will run the risk of destroying human life and the quality of human life we enjoy.

So whether it is radical Christians or radical Islamists or radical Zionists or radical right wing or radical left wing, there will be disregard for human life and human freedoms.

It is the moderate and fair-minded people, believers and non-believers alike who hold the key to the peaceful progression of modern civilization.

Not at all.

It's all "right-wingers" protesting abortion each year in DC...obviously valuing human life more then anyone else.

I have no guns in my home.

I love our planet and our country.

I want our soldiers to come home from Iraq. But I think it's important to stand together as a country and stay united...even though we have differences within.

1 Colossians 1: 9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.
10 And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,
11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully
12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.

Knowing that the Lord exists helps us appreciate the things around us. Extremists in any religion are not the same.
