How old does a child have to be to stay home for about a half hour alone? I am going through some difficulties at my apartment complex with this one lady and she is stating that we don't take care of our child and that she is going to call defacts on us. The child is 8 years old she has her own cell phone and knows our numbers by heart. We are not that far away and she knows how to dial 911 in case of an emergency. She knows not to cook or to get into anything she gets out of school and takes the dog out and then goes in and does her homework.
Someone please help. I have looked online but I cannot find it. I know in New York the law states as long as the child can call 911 and its day time they can stay home for a couple hours, but being that i never had the problem here in GA until now, I have no ideal........
Help please the police couldnt help me, we called and pressed harrassment charges on this lady and the police told us not to worry but she is disrupting our lives.

Thank you too all that answered the question without downing me even more and saying discracefulness.
There are neighbors to watch out and it doesn't exceed over a half and hr sometimes its a couple minutes it all depends on traffic i live in Atlanta. But the outskirts Buckhead. I know all my neighbors.
The concern with the lady is about our cats not kids but everytime we step in she brings the children into it. She had her in tears this morning before her test. Completely inconciderate lady.

The police have been involved in this situation this morning.... And the officer applied that if she has her cell phone and knows the number to 911 and knows how to call us and we are not more than 5 miles away in which I am only 2 miles away then she doesnt see the big deal about it...
Life isn't easy being single for everyone saying that i'm a discrace I do my best.

Well, i know that here in Minnesota, 12 is considered "safe" to babysit, and 10 to stay home alone, although some states 9 is considered "safe." In my opinion, if it's only for a half hour to an hour, i'd leave your child home for that long. Usually having them watch tv the whole time you're gone can keep them busy enough not to get into mischief or telling them to read a book and play with some toys in her room or something along those lines-they usually won't do much else if you tell them they have to. Just make sure your door is locked and make sure she doesn't answer it and you should be fine. hope i helped
ps. if it's any longer than an hour, PLEASE hire a babysitter or have a friend watch your daughter

Your child is too young to be left alone. If she accidently sets the apartment on fire, it will impact the other tenants. Move to a house if you want to leave your child alone without interference. I'd be careful. The police are not going to be your concern now. Since she didn't get satisfaction from them, she will now call DFACS. All that matters is what THEY think in GA. They can remove her from your care.
I'm not trying to put you down or anything, but how can you leave her home alone after what happened to that little 6 year old recently? What if they had picked her up instead?

When I lived there, I was told they had to be 12, and then it could be up to two hours. I think 8 is to young to be left alone even for 30 mins. Alot can happen in 30 mins, and it doesn`t matter how mature the child is. Have a neighbor help out, I had great neighbors when I lived there.

that is a good question. i have 4 kids and my oldest is 11. and i dont even let her alone in the house but i have 3 others thouugh. i would ask the police. social services most likely dont know cause i asked them the same question the women said something low as of 9 years old. i think also it goes by the child too. your daughter knows the sources of what to do and know how to use the phone. and the for the lady who keeps nagging you. i would do something nice for her. she is just jealous of you but in the other way she might be right. just ask the cops or social services because i have never heard of such law taht a kid has to be certain age being left unattended.

Ignore the woman.
I don't know what the law in GA is. Maybe you could call the Department of Children and Family Services for info.
But when I was eight I was home alone after school for about three hours every day. It was no big deal.

Leaving a child home alone is never a good situation, however I do understand. Tell this lady to mind her business and leave you alone, also you might tell the apartment manager that she is harrassing you and see if they can do something about her.

once I lost my real gma some years in the past, there grew to become right into a woman at paintings whom i "accompanied" as my new gma. no longer top away, yet after some weeks. she took me below her wing, and we've been very good pals for a protracted time, til i had to go. curiously you're worried because of the fact some human beings might think of its a sexual component?? oftentimes those relationships with a great number of years between the two women human beings in contact are precisely what they appear as if. merely 2 women human beings from 2 diverse generations looking straight forward interests, and playing each and every others organization. i'm grateful that i grew to become into fortunate adequate to discover somebody like my pal who enjoyed me as l got here to love her and with whom i've got been given alongside extremely properly. there is no longer something, and that i recommend no longer something unusual approximately 2 women human beings having a relationship as you describe. we girls human beings do this daily in view that's in our nature. pass with it, savour it, and merely permit her be the mummy whether that's mushy for the two one in all you. if its no longer, tell her to back off, yet you sound such as you like what's occurring between you, so shop going and cherish that comradeship you have. (and the hell with what human beings think of!) good good fortune to you

Eight years old? You should be ashamed and I can only hope that the local Dept. of Human Services steps in and removes these children from your care!
YOU ARE A DISGRACE!

I don't know the official law about it, but 8 years old is too young.
I wouldn't do it. You just never know what an 8 year old is capable of.

8 year olds should never be left home alone regardless of how sensible they are.For the sake of safety please hire a babysitter. Better safe than sorry.Maybe the woman is naturally concerned about your child.
