My wife and I spent a week in Malysia a few years ago.

It was surprising just how western the country really is.

We felt completely safe roaming the back streets looking for places to eat in the early hours.

Most people were just as friendly or friendlier than what we were used to in Australia.

Going about day to day life there, we saw very little, aside from the odd mosque, that showed it as muslim rather than christian.

Why do so many christians seem to have a problem with the general muslim population when the real trouble makers are so few?

I acknowledge the problem with fundamentalist muslims being so dangerous. But I do think they are in the minority and that they scare moderate muslims as much as they do us.

Excuse me not ALL terrorist are Muslim. Look at the Tamil Tigers, they're HINDU'S, and they account for most of the terrorist acts committed.

I won't make a generalization about Muslims regarding terrorism - I understand that its an extremist movement. However, my parents lived in Egypt (not an extremist Muslim country by any means) for about five years and I visited them on many occasions, once staying for a long period of time.

I met many nice people in Egypt. Living in the Western part of Egypt, it was no suprise that the Egyptians were very nice to foreigners. But, many of the people were genuinly nice - it was actually quite refreshing! However, I encountered certain things that distressed me as well. Most troubling was the way Christians were treated:

1) The Egyptians used the are around a church that Egyptian Christians hold sacred as a garbage dump. It was strange going through a largely Christian community filled with garbage, and then coming upon the most beautiful church I've ever seen - one carved out of rock.

2) Egyptian Christians are often treated as second-class citizens. As holders of an "untrue" religion, they were treated as unworthy. In a country where the vast majority of people are Muslim, this leads to a level of oppression.

3) My parent's pastor died a sudden, tragic and strange death, falling from a balcony several stories to the ground. Although I don't think this has been confirmed, there is a belief that the death was not an accident but a murder. It is known that he sparked a great deal of anger, as he was responsible for starting a number of churches in Egypt.

This is coming from a moderate Muslim country. Many are ready to take the side of Tibetan monks and others when we cry out against the human rights violations in China. But when others cannot practice their faith without fear of retribution in the Middle East, we turn our heads. Is that political correctness speaking?

Dear all

Sadly it is, but I personally believe that there are VERY little Christians in the world although many like to call themselves so. The same goes for Muslims. The problem with Islam is that this right for Jihad can be easily misused even when Muslims are not really endangered. The second problem is that they find other religious groups people as infidels although these might be very religious.
The problem with the “Western” world is that they are hypocrites who do not actually follow the God’s commandments but they consider themselves as noble Christians and they like to bully little nations. Think off all those little people whose lives were ruined by big nation’s bombs, next time you run your 4 L engines and burn the gas soaked with their blood. Think about starving Africa next time you sit down to dine with your fat family with precious diamonds on your jewelry, diamonds bought from hungry Africans for miserable 18 dollars a piece or their oil taken away by the huge International corporations who are getting filthy rich whilst they are starving. Think about a father whose children are dying because his country does not have penicillin whilst Bill Gates greedily sits on the fortune which is so big that he could feed one quarter of the world and still have enough never to lift a finger again. I am a member of a small nation in Europe who wasn’t quite nice to the Muslims in the recent war we had down here but we don’t get terrorist attacks anyway. Why countries like Poland, Hungary, Netherlands, Finland, Slovenia etc never get terrorist attacks. Think about that.

Well i would like to say thank you for posting this question.
It is very refreshing to see someone with real experience of a Muslim country telling it how it really is. Thank you.

That is basically how it is in the majority of Muslim countries. I am a Muslim but a Scottish one so i can hardly claim my culture as being Islamic LOL. But i have visited many Muslim countries and have never felt anything but safe walking the streets, treated with great kindness and respect. And never witnessed anything but people going about there every day life just like in the west. Working, shopping, talking, laughing, playing children etc etc.
But when i try to tell people that they say i am biased because i am Muslim. So thank you for having the conviction to air your views and say how you really found it without preconception and prejudice playing any part in what you had to say.
Peace to you.

I wouldn't say the trouble makers are so few, they're a fairly big number, however I realize that not all Muslims are terrorists. Not all Christians are judgmental, paranoid freaks as many seem to think. Good can come from both Muslim and Christian people, there are good and bad people in every group on earth.

That's just it. Official religion. Don't trust any country run by a religion. You say there are so few terrorist do you know haw many countries have been attacked by terrorist since the beginning of the twenty first century and what are they, Muslims. Just wait until they hit Australia with a devastating blow. You will wake up and change your tune then.

I agree, but would still not visit a country that was predominantly Muslim. Too many other countries out there that have a lower percentage of nuts. Also, how do you know that the trinket you just purchased in the local shop isn't going to radicals? No, I'll stick to the less Muslim countries for holiday.

All the Christians and people of other religions I know (including Atheists) who have lived in Jeddah, Saudia Arabia for a period of time ususally say that Muslims are peaceful.

A handful of these people have even come to love the country.

True. Being a Christian, I have lived in a Muslim country all my life. I have breathed, tasted and understood the Muslim concepts and what they really are.
Islam truly means peace. Terrorism and victory through it, is only the concept of a few, and their concepts die with them.

I don't think many Christians really Believe that ALL Muslims support terrorism.

Sure very few are terrorists, but we really don't know how many that are not terrorists, but still support them with money or safe harbor.

Peace!
