With spring here it is very likely that she is having an allergic reaction to something she is walking on. It could be the grass or if you have treated your lawn recently it could be from whatever you have placed on the lawn. It could also be the detergent you wash your floor with too. No matter what it is she needs some relief and your vet is the only one to give it to her. Make an appointment to have her seen and your vet will help her and your out.

Hi
My dog started to do this too. I have been told that it is an allergy to grass pollen. Their paws are really sensitive and are full of veins which can absorb the irritants and drive them mad with itching! I bathed her paws in cold water when we came back from a walk, put on Sudo Cream (brilliant stuff - doesn't sting) and gave her hay fever tablets ever day for a month! I also bought her some new toys to keep her mind of it and its appears to have done the trick! - but if your not sure about the tablets, I would take your dog to a vet!

While fleas or allergies could be true, it's also common for aging animals to becomes stressed in their old age. This manifests in older cats who, when stressed, will begin licking and chewing all the hair off their stomachs, hind legs and base of their tails.
While I highly advise a visit to the vet, also take time to monitor the activity of your dog and consider any recent changes in your own lifestyle. Even the smallest change can cause unrest in an older animal.

It might be a skin problem, Watch to see if he is stepping in something like puddles which might have something in the puddle like antifreeze oil or any other chemicals. Wash him in a medicated dog soap and watch him. I had an English Sheepdog and when she got to a certain age she had the same problem and i found out it was a skin irritation, and I treated it with medicated soap for dogs and it went away. try it and good luck.

He is probably getting senile and edgy. Remember 12 years is 84 in dog years.

Aging dogs often develop canine eczema. You can buy shapoo and creams from the vet to help relieve your dogs distress.

your dog seems to have a skin problem, you should take him to see a doc.
my dog goron did the same things like your dog does last month and lost lots of his hair cause of the skin problem.
we give him some tablets for it and its getting better.

These are usually symptoms of allergies. Your vet has cortisone-type medications that will help him almost immediately.

he might have stress. maybe he wants you to play woth him more. or maybe he has alergies or everyting iches. if he has stress, keep an eye on him and play and give your attention on him more. if it is alergies, e.t.c., then try new shampoos and rinses. and last, but not least, go to the vet. see what the veterian has to say about it.
