Most christians around the world actually believe in evolution and don't take the bible as being something to be interpreted literally. Certainly not many outside the states consider Genesis to be factual.
Yet the fundamentalists in the USA seem to think they represent mainstream christian thought rather being the fringe dwellers that everyone else sees them as.
Are they really that disinterested in paying attention to the rest of the world?

Because if you don't believe what they believe, they don't consider you to be a "real" Christian. You are among those fake Christians that committed all those atrocities -- Crusades, Inquisition, Holocaust, etc.

Well Link. I was stationed in West Germany in the mid 1980's in Babenhausen, and it was there that I met some decent Germans who believed that Genesis contained alot of information about creation that the ordinary believer simply wasn't seeing. For example, alot of Christians believe the nonsense that the earth was created literally in six days. Yet, in 3:4 where it reads that this is the history of the earth...the word history is translated as "toledoth", and although I've read alot of other definitions of what the word means in terms of a title for family histories, in this verse it literally means vast generations of time. A Jewish friend of mine explained that those generations are actually epochs that put the earth's age closer to six billion years or more than 6 thousand, which is ludicrous. I'm not going to say anything about believers in Australia, I mean God bless Australia (oops!), it's a great nation for sure with really decent people, but it is interesting how your geography on the map can lead to such diverse understandings of various texts.

The rest of the Christian world has moved on but the USA is strange. For instance you can get arrested for wearing low-cut jeans (you know, the ones that are short on the back and a tiny bit of butt can be seen), but anyone can be armed to their teeth with weapons and guns. I mean that country is nuts and the whole world is laughing. In my country you can walk around half naked and no one gives a crap. To catch up with the rest of the world the USA really needs to get an Atheist president asap (well an Agnostic will do).

A great and wonderful bubble world- that is why.
They live in christian communities, go to christian schools, buy from christian shops, listen to christian music, go to church, and watch christian media channels and movies.
99.9% of them are wonderful, honest and sincere people. Many of their sons and daughters have fought and died in many wars defending rights and freedoms they hold dear.
The problem is that they know no better. They are fed and treated by Washington like mushrooms. They are seen by their pastors as bargaining chips and cash registers.
It is they who are abused, not the abusers, but have no idea of how they have been duped, because in the bubble world- everything is rosy and any attack on the christian faith is the "devil".
So none, absolutely none will ever read the Supreme Bible of God, because to do so would to leave the bubble world and into the dark and treacherous real world which resembles something completely different to what they were told-

The United States populace, in spite of having some globally-aware cities, thinks as if there are no other reasonable people on the planet. It is one of our least endearing qualities. We behave so provincially that many members of the public are unaware that they represent a minority of opinion even in their own country.
I wish I could say this quality is unique to the fundamentalist Christian community, but although they are among the most severely effected by this thought stream, they are not alone in believing their own way of life was handed them directly from God.

And seeing women human beings gang raped & beheaded for wearing makeup and their head placed on a stake on the interior reach marketplace. And hands decrease off for stealing. poor left neglected because of the fact it incredibly is Allah's will they are poor. women human beings stored uneducated, abused and residing in worry of their own kinfolk you do no longer think of they get a variety of of a decision what they get to do with their bodies or who they marry.. etc etc. you surely need THIS over what we've immediately in the USA in spite of if some rules might get replaced? Your over exaggerated & below-counseled worry of Fundamentalist Christians and them work out their precise of representation in our democracy seems rather dwindled to what incredibly is going on via Fundamentalist Muslims.

To an American Fundamentalist Christian there is only 'Us' and 'Them' and you and I and everyone else are 'Them'.
They demonize other nations and characterize them as pawns in the book of Revelation while attacking most of their own country men.
In their eyes, they are the ONLY Christians, unless of course they want to comment that Christianity is the world's largest religion, then they include you in their numbers.

Most of the fundamentalist US christians have never even been to another country. That might open their eyes so they avoid the experience.
If you want to see what they are really like, watch Borat, you will never have any use for anything they say after that.

I don't know but i find it funny that some of them say most Christians don't consider Catholics to be Christians. Most Christians are Catholic. I think they don't like to let things like reality interfere with their ideology.

I don't think Christians in the USA believe they represent mainstream anything...
They believe that they are the minority.. but their numbers are growing.. as are all religions.
