Grease fire! My mother in law was cutting potatoes into french fries and I was preparing something else. All of a sudden I turn around and she's piling wet french fries into the grease. Water and grease don't mix! She put in so many fries that the grease immediately boiled over onto the stove. The grease immediately caught fire and there was panic. We couldn't find the baking soda, so I grabbed flour and dumped the entire bag on the fire. Thankfully it went out.
What a mess! The stove was burned black. The knobs and everything were melted pretty much off and had to be replaced. The cupboards above were singed. And the flour was everywhere!
Needless to say, my mother in law hasn't touched a fryer since. The fire lasted a mere 20 seconds but the mess took over 2 hours to clean.

When my kids were babies we always warmed the bottles up in a pan of boiling water on the stove including the middle of the night when you are tired. I fell back asleep, the water boiled out of the pan and the bottle melted and the formula scorched onto the pan. The smell alone woke me up. It is the worst smell to try and get out of your house.

It's a long story, but I left cooked Cornish game hens in the oven for 4 days. (Oven was off, I forgot to put them away) When I finally figured out where the stench was coming from, the hens were covered in maggots! I called my husband at work screaming! I had to turn the oven on to kill them and spray a lot of air freshener. Then when they stopped moving, I let it cool, put a dishcloth over my face and threw it all out...including the pan!

After thanksgiving i was cooking the bones and etc for stock. Had to go to town and turned the electric stove "off" i thought. Well friends came by and saw smoke seeping under my kitchen door. They broke the door down and took the pan off the stove. I had turned the stove to hi not off. if they hadn't come by my house might have burned down. They even stayed till I came home and helped me clean up what We could. Now those ar true friends.

I burned the bacon on Sunday. The whole place smelled like burned fat. I got some Frebreeze Air Effects and it took care of the smell.
