Because men wrote the bible. Why no mention of Adam's daughters, or Noah's son's wives? Women were only mentioned if they had an important role in a particular story.

What is wrong with you people?!?! the answers given here are base and shallow. Becuase he is your father? Because Genesis says so???? Clearly some of you don't know your sacred king james scriptures very well... Of course God is going to be represented as a man in a patristic society. Why would a woman have any worth??? Are we not told by Christ, neither male NOR female, greek nor jew, slave or free?? Who is man OR woman to shove the ideal reality of a Godhead into a box and say that, HE has to be a man...becuase he impregnanted a woman?!?!? If God is the the God of all creation, the maker of all things, does that God honestly need to possess a male genital in order to impregnate a woman?? If I remember the Sister's teaching us... I don't think that God the "Father" jumped on a bus, headed over to the Virgen's house for a night of fun..aren't we told that the spirit of the Lord came upon her??? HMMM, and I suppose that spirit HAS to be in the form of a dove? WOW a dove with a penis too?? Does anyone else see an obssession here?? In closing, if any of you amazingly uninformed people know anything about the old law, Yaweh, who was also called, El Shaddai(yeah that awful song by Amy Grant, I'm sure you love it) means, the GODDESS of the mountains, or the breasts... So either the spirit of the living God can contain and surpass both genders simultaneously or God the Father has gynoclamastia, I know it's a big word, but for small safe minded people it means man boobies... Open your minds to the possibility that "God" can be more than you can even fathom.. Don't put it in a box... WOW

In examining Scripture, two facts become clear: First, that God is a Spirit, and does not possess human characteristics or limitations; second, that all the evidence contained in Scripture agrees that God revealed Himself to mankind in a male form. First of all, God’s true nature needs to be understood. God is a person, obviously, because God exhibits all the characteristics of personhood: God has a mind, a will, an intellect, and emotions. God communicates, has relationships, and God’s personal actions are evidenced throughout Scripture
Scripture contains almost 170 references to God as the “Father.” By necessity, one cannot be a father unless he is male. If God had chosen to be revealed to man in a female form, then the word “mother” would have occurred in these places, not “father.” In the Old and New Testament both, masculine pronouns are used over and over again in reference to God.

The assumption is made because of several scriptures in the Bible:
1) God is always referred to in the masculine gender throughout the Bible
2) He is referred to as God the Father
3) He was able to impregnant a woman
4) When he came in human form (Jesus Christ), he was male
Those scriptures lead to the assumption that he is male.

People always use that "God made man in his own image" line to answer this. Many biblical scholars think that translators working from the original Hebrew mistook imagination for image. It is the ultimate in hubris to think we all look like God, or that God looks like us. For all anyone knows, God could look like anything at all - a deer, a chimera, anything.

Dear Friend,
Because that is the information given to us in Gods word the Bible. God is referred to as Father and God. Since the Bible is god breathed we know this information to be correct.
God Bless

God is a spirit so He/She has no sex. So it is up to you whether you want to address God as a He or a She.
Peace and every blessing!

If there was a god (and there is not) she would most definitely be a man. That is why.
