The resale value of the GT is better than that of the V6. The 300 hp is only a sales pitch. If you look at the graphs the horse power reaches 300 before it starts to redline.
As for gas mileage, it all depends on the use and abuse. If you commute to and from school or work through the use of a highway then a GT would not be so bad. It really is just a desire of power. When you need it, it is there. It might a lot longer with the V6. It really all depends on how heavy your foot is.
However, if you are a gearhead, there are many affordable upgrades available which will allow you to have just as much power as a V8 without the initial price tag. Either way I have found that installing hotter spark plugs, changing to a K&N air filter, and a light weight racing wheel has improved my gas mileage enough to satisfy me. I have friends with the V8 who have gotten 26 mpg on a 500 mile round trip down a coastal windy road.
If your under 25, think about the V6. The insurance costs might run you through the ringer too.

I seriously doubt an Accord can outrun a Mustang.
Do you need 300hp? Probably not, but the Mustang GT has better styling (notice the optional larger 18" wheels, dual tail pipes, ground effects kit). The V6 mpg isn't that great because it is a 4.0L, which is a larger V6. The exhaust sounds a lot better on the GT too.
If you're looking for good power, mpg, and styling get the Ford Fusion V6. It's got a 3.0L V6 and recently beat Accord and Camry in comparison tests.

well personally i would get the v8 (GT) , man i promise u there ALMOST the same on gas, well see ive had a 94 mustang v6 and the 5.0 and they were both the same on gas really i would even say the newer one would be easier on gas too and i can get 600 high way miles on a full tank (about 30 in gas)

It just makes it so much easier trying to merge on to the freeway or pass someone. The HP is nice to have in case you need it. We all know you are not going to be cruising around doing 140MPH. But you do pull out in traffic and it is nice to have. I loved mine. If fairness though, the V6 is no slouch either. It is not that much behind the V8.
So either one will do the job, it's more a question of what you want. I wanted top of the line when I bought mine for the wife, and she also loved the power and handling.
Either way, they are a blast to drive and handle like a go cart.
Good luck

Yes. The only car I would even consider buying is a Mustang and I wouldn't drop the ball and get a V6 unless it was for my sister or something.
I buy cars for ME. Not so I can impress my friends.
Audi, Accord, Fusion.....BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

My dad was getting a new GT Mustang until the salesman's showed him a new Honda Accord 3.0 vtec. Better gas mileage no cut back, cheaper insurance and will run over the Mustang on top end.

its all about telling you friends that you have 300hp in that....but if you already have that money, the gas shouldnt be your problem, if your problem is the gas, you should by some things like audi A6 3.0 TDI 225hp about 8l on 100km-60miles....or A6 2.0 TDI 140hp 5.7l on 100km
