Because it's really a cult.
Internalized contradictions are how cults operate.
If they can get you to believe 2+2=5, they can make you believe anything.
examples-
"It's Anonymous if I say my name in front of everybody"
"We have to surrender our freedom in order to keep it"
"This applesauce and vodka will enable me to be picked up by the spaceship next to the Hale-Bopp comet once my earthy bodily functions have ceased"
"This Kool Aid tastes good and I really don't mind drinking it if Rev Jones said it was OK"
"My Higher Power can be a rock or it can be God...that's why all those references to God can be found around meetings."
AA teaches people to define themselves as sick, diseased to the core, and then encourages them to trade the almighty bottle for the almighty God. It has a stranglehold on Recovery. Not because it works.
Because cults don't give up power or new recruits.
BTW I had 4 years sober, I quit AA, I drank again. My life didn't become unmanageable when I started drinking socially again. It got better.
Take off your hats 12 steppers!

It's because the information discussed and people's identities in the room remain confidential once outside it.

Also, for example, people on YA have names (maybe not real ones) but we're all still anonymous. I think there is a difference.

Because if everyone says "I'm John" no one knows who anyone REALLY is.

Hope that helps ya John

Best regards

John

lol, very true. Maybe its because you go there as an anonymous alcohlic to start with rather than talking to friends and family about it.

" You can't make a change unless you admit
