Ha! Don't you believe it!
It just means that the parents are determined to force their child to read! I worked with a child who could read before she was three (really awful pushy mother) and she was bored to tears in class. Her superior attitude made her unpopular and loathed. And of course, she was average in iq, a hard fact that her mother refused to accept.
You're much better working with your child - sure, teach himer if she wants to. But don't make your child's life a misery because of it.

Not necessarily. There are no proven links between early reading skills and high IQ. However, helping your child lear to read and write before they go to school can help to give them a head start. Make time for your child to do some kind of academic work in the home as well as them having that at school. You can then help to promote a healthy attitude towards learning as well as help your child aquire skills at an earlier age.

I personally learned how to read when I was 3 and a half. I made great grades in school as a result, but I struggled a little in early elementary because I was behind in math.
I think it is a very good idea to read to your child everyday from birth because it not only increases the chance they will read early but it is a good bonding activity for you and your child as well.
