The reason I ask is that listening on the news to the terrible injuries that Baha Musa suffered at the hands of the Duke of Lancasters regiment (who turned out to be an innocent man in the end!), he was quite literally literally beaten to death by fists, boots and rifles, suffering horrific injuries.
Although I think 4 were tried for his murder, they walked away free from a military court costing taxpayers £20m on account of a 'lack of evidence' and the presiding judge stating that he believed it was other soldiers from the same regiment that killed this man. Although no one knows who these 'others' are.... however someone must know something.
So does honour mean protecting those around you, no matter what?
This is not a dig at you, I'm genuinely interested from other BRITISH military personnel on whether you would offer the same sort of protection for one of your colleagues in these circumstances?

Francis, thanks for your answer and you raise some good points. However, dear, I am a relief worker and quite often go into places unarmed where even the bravest of soldiers wouldn't go. So don't preach to me that I don't know what its like to be afraid or scared for my life. I've probably seen more atrocities and human suffering in my short life than you have. And I left Uni a long time ago.

Ducky. If you are on about the lowlife that was on ITV news last night then please disregard what he said. I was in Iraq with him and he was a real Jonny 2 Sh1ts (if youve had 1 he's had 2) I went into a rage when I saw him on the news lying through his teeth, and if I bumped into him today he would look far more brutalised than Baha Mousa.
Thats the problem though, its not about honour, its raw emotion. Imagine if somebody had murdered someone close to you and you watched it happen. The murderer then laughs at you and shows no remorse. Would you be calm and collective? I doubt it. Would you be sorry if they were killed? What Im trying to say is that I can see why soldiers might do somthing so out of character like that.
What happened to Baha Mousa is terrible and the above is not an excuse. It shouldnt have happened and I hope it wont happen again.
Oh no Ive just re-read your question and realised that you are asking if we would lie for each other. I think Im still mad about the guy on ITV last night. Would I lie? I dont know.
How far would you go to protect your family? Would you put a terrorist above them? Its a tough one.
Sorry for rambling on. Please read this article about life in Basra.http://www.michaelyon-online.com/wp/british-forces-at-war-as-witnessed-by-an-american.htm#comment-18339

of course the British military is the ideal, truly the entire British protection stress is the ideal despite the fact that that's the British governments fault that the British military hasn't have been given plenty funds.that's authentic that if the British military had extra manpower they could be unstoppable.Who saved the international from domination interior the 2nd international conflict....the RAF as a results of fact if the RAF did no longer beat the Germans interior the conflict of england they could of attacked usa and further it over genuinely.Britain did no longer asked for the individuals help they got here in as a results of fact of Pearl Harbor or maybe then it became into too late, for this reason each and every physique hates individuals they're packed with **** like whilst they saved Britain...it is not authentic the British saved usa and the entire international.

this is the typical type of bullshit question to come out of university dwelling morons who should be studying rather than on here asking and imposing such stupid questions on to people who have actually been, seen or know a little about this subject.
ever heard of tony martin? a farmer who protected his own property from intruders, whos victim told the whole nation on television that he had the right to break into the farm as he thought it was derelict. who was the innocent party in that one, although i can guess your answer, not tony martin.
just because people say they are innocent doesnt always mean they are.
for the greater majority of iraqis they are happy to finally be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but a few are still adamant they want the old regime back, who is to say this man was not one of these people who when the going got tough decided to play the innocent card.
war is war there is no other way to describe it to such a simple minded girl as yourself because you will only ever believe what is wrote down or shown to you on the goggle box, as someone suggested get yourself joined up and have a see for your self little girl!

As a US Soldier working with Aussie and UK troops I will tell you this, These fine men and women are some of the greatest people ever to step from the hands of the Gods! The have Honour and show it everyday. I will not claim that these men were innocent by your standards, but see these Dogs beating women and children and Shooting them and raping them even the bravest and hardiest of souls fail. Some days I do feel like shooting a bunch. Then when one our fellows is blown away for what ever reason it is frustration like you may never know. At least if they had uniforms and fought us I would gladly die for glory, but this blowing up the old and women and children is so cowardly and frustrating that yes some of us feel compelled to put honour aside at times. I am sorry this "innocent" died But a hundred skulked away leaving him holding the bag.

In an conflict Innocent people get killed (collateral damage) Its part of war and it has to be accepted that things will happen.
(Baha Musa) is just another victim of conflict!..
The mind set for those soldiers involves is (do unto them has they would do unto you)!. or (all's fare in love and war). Think about the Army 6 red caps killed by a raging mob!.. Such things play on soldiers minds, and have a baring on events afterwards.
I would imagine that the majority of soldiers fighting in the Iraqi conflict would feel revulsion at what happened to both (Baha Musa ) and those red caps! - However! they have to walk the streets drive the roads in constant fear of attack by Iraqi and others irregular forces . Having Honour is great! but it wont protect you from a bullet or roadside bomb! so in such cases your Honour becomes second to survival and welfare of your mates and colleagues,
If life was perfect there would be no war!.

U fail to consider the many, many thousands of UK Military men and women who also died or were seriously crippled, maimed for life, not forgetting what Muslims do to captured soldiers i.e. have u ever seen a Muslim prisoner of war camp - they dont exist!
Not forgetting the gutless RN assoles who abided by no honour in Iraq. I do beleive only one gave his name, rank, number. That was entirely honouable!
When ur fighting scum u do not leave people alive behind u - you kill them - or they get up and shoot u in the back!
U also seem to have some odd questions concerning the UK Military? Rememeber, its the UK - 4 Nations - not just Brits!
