This is an article on muslim men, from muslims, on how it's their duty to curb abuse and it details how they can change themselves. For those that like to say muslim women are abused, does this have any effect on your attitudes? I know many have seen the mistranslated english copy of the Quran, and it angers me that instead of using the translation of literally leaving the area as it is the other 5 times it is used, it suddenly changes meaning in this verse. In other words, abuse has no place in Islam. The Quran says men may not harm their wives. In many places. What do you think of this article?

It's supposed to be that way, Azrael. This drives it into their heads that their stereotypes are not true, and that the media propaganda is not true, and that we DO speak out.

I think this was a great article.

I recently saw a post by a Muslim man commenting on why women have to cover themselves up. He said it was so that the men weren't tempted to look, so that it would save the women from being stoned because she appeared to be immodest, and also so that women don't become concerned with fashion or ornamentation...

It made me wonder that perhaps that the first two reasons may be what men take out of context and misinterpret their scripture. They feel that they have to protect the woman because she's a sexual person. Anything that the man does is provoked by the woman.

It upset me that the way this guy answered in his post what meant to mean that man couldn't control their actions or thoughts and take responsibility for the way they felt, but rather punished the woman. Maybe that's were the abuse comes from, not that they ARE abused, but because the man, whenever he finds himself "aroused" or angered or whatever, turns it against the woman and blames the woman as it being her fault. The man just couldn't control himself.

"The Quran says men may not harm their wives."

Uh - you had to have that written down before you knew it was right? That's just common sense.

And, despite all the words to the contrary, the important thing is not whether it's part of Islam, but whether it's part of *life*.

Holy books say all sorts of good things. If the followers don't act on them, it's just a waste of ink.
