Begin treatment by cleaning out your dog’s ears before applying oil or medication. The exudates must be removed or the medication will merely sit on the waxy substance where it is of no benefit. Veterinarians often recommend using white vinegar (also called acetic acid), because it removes dirt and debris and helps restore a healthy chemical balance in the ears. Using a small amount of diluted vinegar (using either a 1:1 ratio or 1 part vinegar to 2 parts of water 1:2 ratio) pour into the ear canal, massage the area, then gently wipe the inside of the ear with a cotton ball. Only clean the area of the ears that you can see. NOTE: It is not a good idea to use vinegar when the ears are sore or ulcerated, as it will sting. This home remedy for ear mites calls for three to six drops of almond oil or olive oil in each ear canal. This will smother the mites and may allow the infection to heal. You will need to continue the oil treatments for three to four weeks, by putting three to six drops of oil into the ear canals each day. Be patient and thorough. Treatments can take up to four weeks because you have to eliminate any eggs that might hatch.

It's good you found something over the counter to help with ear mites but keep in mind a few things, ear mites not commanly found in dogs, it usually affects cats mostly. Ear mites lay eggs so there bedding needs attention as well as the furniture, floors, rugs etc in your home.
The best way to treat and control ear mites (after an ear swab has been done first to determine that it truly is ear mites)is to have your vet put him under and do an ear flush and medicate. You will start with a clean slate then and your vet will send home hexamite to continue treatment. Again clean all bedding, rugs, furniture etc the dog lays on.
Good luck with the product you found, i really hope it works for your pet and not create a bigger ear problem for your pet.

I use an excellent product on all my dogs called Thornit. This is a powder which you sprinkle into the ear and within a day or two the ears are completely clear and as clean as a whistle.
Most Vets stock Thornit but it can be purchased from Canine Chemists on the Internet. Costs about £6.
Well worth a try.

I agree with Tea Tree Oil and Olive Oil. Some breeds are more susceptible to ear mites than others. Most dogs get them from cats that stay outside. Good luck!

Adult dogs don't tend to get ear mites. Could very well be a yeast infection. If your dog is prone to this, clean ears regularly and use Otomax.

Tea tree oil. Sure fire way to get rid of them. Probably what you used only cheaper :)
Indeed you need to use it 'all over' not just the ears.
