I've been working on my family tree and can't seem to find any of my family members from Tennessee? I've been working on ancesrty.com, gencircles, one great family, etc. Can anyone help? My grandfather is Robert Licoln Violet and he married Melda Marie Whitaker and I believe had 13 children and one is my father.

Hey Turkey,

There are several Robert Violet entries in Family Search.com. You should get his Death Certificate, and her Death Certificate. That will give their parents also. Once you know the date of death, you can check for Obituaries also. The Online sites you are looking in are not the 'end all to beat all'.

3 entries form Family Search:
5. Robert VIOLET - U.S. Social Security Death Index
Birth: 30 Dec 1913 State Where Number was Issued: Tennessee Death: May 1978
6. Robert VIOLET - U.S. Social Security Death Index
Birth: 21 Sep 1908 State Where Number was Issued: Tennessee Death: Dec 1971
7. Robert VIOLET - U.S. Social Security Death Index
Birth: 24 Jun 1927 State Where Number was Issued: Tennessee Death: Nov 1981

Your Father's Birth certificate will say the name of your Grandfather and Grandmother, and their ages at the time of your Fathers birth. That gives you the clues you are looking for. Was your father born in TN? You can get his Vital Records fairly easy.

The GENFORUM below, is for Violet specifically. I see entries for TN there, you will have to look for yourself. You can search within the GENFORUMS, so look for their first names, and look for their birth locations. You can post messages there also, and talk to distant cousins.

Not found - does that mean you haven't gotten their death and birth certificates or looked on census? US Census is available up to 1930.
