To start with I hold my hands up and agree I was speeding like an idiot!!

My driving has improved vastly since I got pulled over by the police in October last year. (I was doing an average of 98mph)

However, although I was issued with a ticket on the day, some 6 months later I still haven't had a summons or heard anything else about it.

The police officer that pulled me over said I should not worry about anything until I hear off them...... but of course I worry about it everyday - stupid I know but I love driving - need it for work etc etc - and yes I know I shouldn't have been speeding at the time but I was.

I was just wondering is there a cut off point to where the police can not convict you of the offence or is it just an on going thing until you hear off them?

I don't want to be 90 years old and still worrying about the afore mentioned problem.

Cheers for your response.

Although all summonses have to be issued within six months of the date of the offence (and are physically checked, one by one at the court before being signed by a magistrate and served on those concerned) the police have some device which I have never understood called "re-issue". When that is stamped across a summons, for some reason it can start all over again, but as I say, I have never understood the logic behind it. If you have stayed put at your home address, then if you are going to hear any more about it, it will be in the next few months at latest. It may be that the police officer who stopped you has since left the force or been posted far away and therefore it is not practicable for him to give evidence against you. That can happen sometimes. If you haven't heard anything by the end of this year, then you can dismiss the matter from your mind. You are the very sort of person who would be a candidate for immediate disqualification at that speed and one would have expected similarly speedy action on the part of the prosecution.

You don't make it clear what the ticket was, at that speed I doubt it was a fixed penalty ticket..if it was and you paid it that is that..you get three points on your licence...believe me you have got off lightly.
If it was an NIP then you should have got a summons by now. I think I'm right in saying that information for a summons should be laid within 6 months...if not proceedings can't take place, although someone with more knowledge may dispute this....

Does the ticket have anything on it to say how long the police have to issue a summons. If not it could still be live, however you would normally be contacted within 14 days if they were going to proceed.

if you were issed with a fixed penalty for doing 98 mph then you were fortunate this speed normally would have you in court anyway the fixed penalty should have been paid within twenty one days and your licence sent to the court listed on the notice if you did not pay it then you would automatcally be summonsed to appear usually within six months i would wait at least another two months before making enquiries which would be best done via a solicitor who can enquire if you have been convicted in your absence he would charge approx 25-50 pounds for this but it will ease your mind in the long run.

You need to check with the police to see what the status of the ticket is. It may have been misfiled and now there might be a warrant out for you.

Seems to me I just read that the UK had just enhanced penalties for speeding. Something about public flogging. . .

Hey man chill out!, don't worry about the things so much, the fact is you are in the system and now! and so whats will be will be! - I think you should brace yourself for a nice big fine and 6 points on your license , the courts are so full of speeders that it takes time to process you all.. Worry when you have too!.
Good luck !

if you were given a fixed penalty, and you have paid it there will be no further action,if you were told that you woulod be reported for the offence then i suggest that you get in touch with the police force that stopped you and ask to talk to someone in the admin support unit, non crim, they should be able to help you
