This might seem strange, but I had a cat that scratched the wood by the doors. He had a scratching post, too, so I rubbed the wood with orange rind, the inside white part. The only thing is, he'll find another thing to scratch on. You could also rub it with bitter almond, but unless your bed is dark wood, these will stain it. You might have to put your cat in another room where he can't scratch at your door. Kitty just needs to learn some manners.

Move the scratching post in front of where he likes to scratch and he will use it instead.
But never declaw a cat for not only is it cruel but it can cause other bad behaviors like biting or not using the litterbox. If you don't believe me then call any shelter and they will tell you they have declawed cats with behavior problems that are NOT adoptable and will have to be killed.
People that declaw are in denial and think the reason the bad behaviors exist is from another reason when in reality it is because of the trauma and suffering they went through.
Besides they can no longer protect themselves with their claws so they resort to biting and that can be worse then scratching.

This is the best idea I have ever heard. I was trying to figure out how to get my cats to stay away from certain areas. Like my kitten after she was born and before we could train her in a litter box she would go behind the sofa. If you add Moth Balls to the area where you don't want them to go to the bathroom, scratch or just stay away from a certain area. They hate the smell. Try to buy some and let your cat sniff it...He will run away in a heart beat. What I would do is take a pair of pantyhose and cut one of the foots off enough to hold about 10 mothballs and tie it up. The tie it to the bed. But in other areas like behind sofa's just put them on top of the carpet. You will be sure to have no problems with your cat going to that spot anymore.
Hope it helps!!

I have a few suggestions...
I don't know how old you are (so this may not be an option) but i love my cat sleeping on my bed too...soo she goes to bed with me and then my parents lock her in the laundry with my other cat when they got to bed.
You could also go see the vet and ask them to suggest some products to use. I had a spray that I sprayed on the area my cat scratched and it smelt sooo bad to my cat that he would not go near the area where it had been sprayed.
Mabey you called get your cats claws cut so that they can't scratch.

It depends on why he's doing it. He might be sratching to let you know he needs to go out. Try making him more friendly toward the scratching post, place his toys around it and stuff and when he starts scratching on your bed, pick him up and take him to the post. Put his paws on it and encourage him to scratch at it. Be consistant with him and he'll soon get the idea.

put some carpet on those areas, or if you want them to stay away from it add catnip to their scratching post and deter-ant spray on your bed posts. OOh and strangely kitties don't claw micro suede... so maybe cover that end of your bed with a micro suede fabric/blanket.

Keep a couple of aluminum pie pans next to your bed and bang them together every time he starts this. They HATE that noise. (Seriously--I know it sounds a bit odd but I've had cats all my life).

they scratch to shed old layes of their claws. if you look around the corners of your bed you will find some. tell him no and take him to his post.or try squirting him with a squirt bottle filled with water-only on th soft setting, this will deter him.

They hate two-sided tape. Put a few strips on the places he scratches. I know it's not a perfect suggestion, but...it's free!
