FOr example, Frederic Chopin, the classical pianist, had a Polish mother and French father. His sentiments and his musical style were much more "Polish" in flavor than French. He composed Mazurkas, Polonaises, and waltzes much more than anything else. Did this have to do with his mother's influence? I think Jewish people say 'if your mother is Jewish, you're Jewish too', regardless of the father.

I don't believe that is always the case.

I think it depends on the country/culture in which a person is raised and how strongly a parent feels about raising their child in the traditional ways of their culture.

I had two good friends in high school who both had Korean mothers and American fathers (both military families) Both of my friends were very much "American."
