Seems like this argument continues, this is one of the only subjects that i really disagree with Santana and Brent who are without doubt two of the most knowledgeable on the forum, Pacquiao doesnt seem to get much respect from either, the one thing i could think that could maybe go against Pacquiao is the way you have phrased your question as in the best pound for pound boxer, if you had phrased it best pound for pound fighter or best pound for pound puncher then in my mind Pacquiao is streets ahead in both of those categories but the way you have asked the question is best pound for pound boxer and this leaves the door open for boxers who are better technicians than the pacman (i.e Mayweather, Marquez, Calzaghe, Taylor and Winky).
For me though Pacquiao might not have the sublime technical skills of some of the afore mentioned superstars but there is no one fighter in the world which dominates a division or strikes fear into opponents like the Pacman does for me, he is in my honest opinion the No1 p4p boxer, fighter, brawler, puncher and probably any other category you can make up there is no one boxer on the planet that i would rather watch right now than him.
And just to add i would also love to see the Juan Manuel Marquez rematch but after i watched him against Barrera i realised that it would be a one sided victory for the pacman, there is just no way that Marquez would go the distance, if Nady had seen the knockdown in the Barrera fight i dont think Marquez would of lasted the round against him, i would like to see what kind of devastation the Pacmans punching power would have against Marquez i dont see it lasting three rounds, maybe when this happens Manny might get a little more respect, which is long overdue in my eyes, i mean he has cleaned his division with devastating effect and it was probably the strongest division in boxing when he first started to take control over it.

Mayweather hasn't really fought any good boxers? So you must not think highly of Castillo, Corrales or Judah, huh? If that's the case, you don't know a thing about boxing. Pacquiao—one of my favorite fighters to watch—is in the top 10 right now, but Mayweather is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world today based on his unsurpassed boxing skill level, the guys he has beaten so far, the fact that he's UNDEFEATED, etc.

Yes, he definitely is. Mayweather, Manny's rival in the pound for pound category, is obviously a first class fighter. He's fast, he's strong and he's highly skilled in the sweet science. But whatever talents Floyd has, Pac Man's got 'em too and more. The big difference, I think, is in the quality of their respective competition. From the time he became flyweight champion almost ten years ago, Manny's been fighting top-ranked or high caliber opponents, and he beat 'em all. Whereas, Mayweather fought mostly unknown or weak fighters. Dela Hoya will be his first real test after all these years and I think he's scared to death.

In his category, "Pac-man" Pacquiao is the greatest pound for pound. Now that Pacquiao is the #1 contender to fight Marquez for the title....we will see who is the best. Marquez can't duct from this bout now......last time they met, Pacquiao had no defense and all he did was try to knock Marquez out in the first few rounds. Now that Freddy Roach is Pacquiao's trainer, he has made Pac-Man a complete fighter w/ deadly offense and a solid defense. Marquez will have to bring his "A" game. Marquez is great fighter and I see this match up as being Pacquiao biggest test to solidify his name as the greatest boxer (in his division) ever.

Two boxers are a cut above the rest and can lay claim to this mythical crown...Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather and the Pacman, Manny Pacquiao...but based on their last fight, Mayweather has a sleeper fight...his fights are the cure for insomia...where as for Manny, all his fights are box office hits and he is the most exciting boxer now...so my vote goes to Pacquiao as the best boxer P4P.

No. And anyone who knows anything about boxing should also respond no. He has lost several times and is beatable. He may be on a roll but he is not even in Floyd Mayweather's class let alone number one. Other top five contenders might be Joe Calzaghe, Miguel Cotto, Winky Wright and until he loses, Jermain Taylor. Pacquiao is VERY good but I doubt he could beat Marquez if they fight again. I think JMM just has the wrong style for him. Good question though but no, he is not PFP the best. Far and away its Floyd Mayweather. And Jeff, take it easy. He is just a person with an opinion just like me and just like you. And the Ring has made mistakes before. Whether you agree or not he has had a few good years but he's also more exciting than most other fighters and that buys him points. And I also saw the Marquez fight and yes, I think Marquez certainly did enough to win and I am a former fighter myself and I know how to score fights. Its subjective and its not an exact science so regardless of what the judges saw or erred in (see Holyfield-Lewis, Trinidad-DeLaHoya, DLH-Sturm, Morales-Barrera) they make mistakes too. Having said that, Manny is not the scourge of Mexicans everywhere. I am also mexican and I admire Manny but he can, and has been, beat before. That is a fact my friend. And finally, the question was whether he was the best "boxer" in the world, not the most exciting.

I firmly believe he is. I am not as that analytical in boxing as you guys are but for me, what separates Manny Pacquiao from other boxers is his big heart. He sincerely offers his victory to all of us Filipinos. So we take pride that we have Manny Pacquiao, and he may soon end his career knocked down, he will always be recognized as Philippines' greatest athlete of all time. And I'm pretty sure that his name will always be in the history books as one of the greatest P4P boxers in the world.

To the poster above me. There have been a few men that have won fighter of the year from Ring Magazine and have not been ranked in their top ten pound for pound (Glencoffe Johnson for example). The Pac Man is an exciting fighter and I would rank him in my top ten but Rafael Marquez is and has been my pick as number one for a couple of years now. If Pacquiao was to fight Juan Manuel Marquez again I think he gets beat.
jcns - you tell me to get my facts straight. Well if you're stating that I'm wrong, then I ask you to post your source. Make sure it's a reputable source that I can look up. Until then cease your woofing. One little tidbit Chris John would beat Pacquiao. Thanks

Short and simple unlike others who decide to write stories, to my opinion NO. Juan M. Marquez dominated the fight and just got threw beating Marco A. Barrera, and Juan also frustrated Barrera, you must see that fight in mute to ignore the commentating and score the fight.
