I'm not a Christian anymore but I believe there is an ideal lifestyle that Christians are expected to live and churches to conduct ministry.
Philippians 4:8 says, "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things."
Eminem and 50 Cent certainly do not meet the standards set forth in that verse. I'm not one for legalism in the church but at the same time there should be boundaries to what is said and done. Christians are suppose to glorify the Lord in word and deed. Eminem and 50 Cent do not glorify the Lord either way. I'm atheist and I like rap/hip-hop music but I don't believe their music promotes the values I want running through my mind much less if I were a pastor in my youth group. Kick it to the curb.

While I don't listen to Eminem & 50 cent, my overall impression is that their message is generally not appropriate for anyone to be exposed to.
I would ask why a youth leader would feel the need to play such negative music.

I'm not nuts about it. But I'm funny that way. I don't like most contemporary music in a religious setting. Our church uses classical music, and I'm fine with that. I was fine with it when I was younger, too. One thing I hated as a teenager was adults who tried so hard to be "hip", but just ended up alienating us all, instead. I liked coming to church and hearing Mozart and Mendelssohn when I was young, and still do today. I work with our church music now, and I don't think Eminem's going to be added to the playlist anytime soon.

It is very inappropriate. The Bible says over and over again that we are to be separate from the world, not a part of it. This kind of music would re-enforce the concept of being worldly and having the church be all things to man.

I think it is totally inappropriate and takes the focus away from why people are at church..to worship God.
