they are good at history but they are all out to get their cut of money from the shops they have to go to, I went on a tour a few summers ago and we spent most of the time going to this shop and that shop, we had all minoring to go see the Great Wall but after having stopped at two shop we only got an hour in the Wall, we also ate a place where we had to walk through a shop to get to the tables and back through the shop after we ate to leave, it was a joke, it is all about the $$$

Some are good, some are bad, some are ugly.
They are good because you have money to shop and too ignorant to understand cultural goods.
They are bad because, they will shortern sightseeing time and lengthen shopping (designated shops) time
They are ugly, they turn nasty if you do not patronise their shops and do not join their optional tours

hehehehe...I think u is right~~~The chinese travel guide like show u go to shopping.......it's chinese social problem. i'm sorry to say that but it's ture.
In fact, u can choose another way to travel china. there'r many local B&B homestay in china which there family or lord are very happy to introduce some great place to playing...
