I believe that Revelations is a literal account, or prophecy, of what is to be. There is some symbolic wording in the text, and it is a very hard book to understand unless you have read and understood the rest of the Bible, both OT and NT. There is an author name Jack Kelly who explains the book of Revelations very well. You can find him through a search or you can go to raptureready.com and read the lessons he provided on the book of Revelations and others as well.

If you have questions about the Book of Revelation, I have found that "The Book of Revelation Revealed" by Hilton Sutton offers the best analysis of what it means.
