Would you rather have taxes taken out of your pay check everyweek, like it is now? or Would you rather no taxes taken out of your pay check and have a high 18-20% sales tax on all items?

Screw the sales tax! Sales tax break the first rule of taxation: Make sure that the taxpayer can afford the tax.

The wealthy have no problem with it, and will probably pay much less tax, but the working poor would be decimated by a national sales tax. They pay little or no income tax but would be hit with thousands in tax bills with a large sales tax levy.

Keep in mind that it would need to be closer to 25% to generate the same revenue as the current graduated income tax. And that is on top of state and local sales taxes which run as high as 10% in some counties.

A graduated income tax is the fairest of ALL taxes. It takes into consideration the ability of the taxpayer to pay the tax and does not disproportionally affect any group of taxpayers.

Property taxes are reasonably fair during your productive years since most of us buy within our means but once we retire on a fixed income the burden shifts since the taxes will continue to rise while income and ability to pay does not.

Large sales tax levys and flat income taxes transfer the burden for the tax to the middle class and working poor from the wealthy. If you're a Bill Gates or Steve Forbes they're a great idea. If you're a working stiff like most of us they SUCK beyond imagination.

A sales tax only policy hurts poor people a lot more. Rich people spend a small portion of their income on daily essentials like food and transportation. Poor people spend a large portion of their income on essentials. A straight sales tax will unfairly tax the poor more than the rich.

Sales tax. Everyone would be paying the same %. And the IRS would be off our backs. But I'm afraid it's more likely that the government will do both taxes instead of getting rid of income tax.
