Actualy yes it is true, if you get a Dishonorable discharge you are not eligible to own land, apply for jobs with any company that has a government contract, bye bye mcdonalds, buger king, and many others. You lose all your veterans benefits including burial benefits. You are basically considered persona non grata in the eyes of the government and society.

You are basically a pariah of decent society. There are only about three reasons I can think of that I would consider justifiable reasons for behavior that could get one a dishonorable discharge. Being in the service, I know how the system works. You have to be a seriously bad apple to get that 'award'. I have seen people get 'general discharges' for things they would get ten years for in civilian courts. Most likely I don't have a lot of sympathy for one carrying that brand!

You can not get a job with any company that holds a Gov't contract this even includes Pepsi cola. You can not own a fire arm, You lose all college benifits even ones not assoicated with the military, You can not own land vote etc. Why not just get a normal honorable or general discharge. ..... Dishonorable Discharge is equivalent to spending the last 10yrs of your life in Prison.

You will see the same problems when looking for a job .

VA benefits, govt jobs, civilian jobs, GI bill, etc.
Believe me, a bad paper discharge is an awful lot of excess baggage to carry through life.

You don't want one.

You can't get any government job, and many non-government employers won't hire you if they found out, and I don't think it will affect buying land.
